Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

This can go to MIXEDWAVE, who continues to go from strength to strength this term and Pam Sly’s most likeable 7-y-o can notch a fourth success overthe larger obstacles. Venetia Williams has had a couple of winners this week and her Grizzly James may emerge as the main danger if able to leave a disappointing effort behind at Lingfield last month, with Committee of One rounding off the shortlist.

COUNTRYSIDE RACEDAY A field day for the whole family! Under 18s Free Entry EASTER MONDAY 1 APRIL BOOK NOW
Richard Howard
Richard’s friends and family are gathered here today to remember a man who simply loved his horseracing and was a familiar face to many on the racecourses throughout the South East and beyond. From Cheltenham to Newmarket, via Leopardstown, Santa Anita and York, he loved nothing more than a day at the races, with his binoculars and a copy of the Racing Post in hand. We had some particularly memorable days here at Huntingdon down the years and we are all thinking of him today.
Richard is survived by his wife Beryl and his two sons, who both ended up working in racing. His elder son David was a jockey with Martin Pipe in the late 1990s / early 2000s, who is now a postdoc genetic researcher; and Stephen, who has worked for Weatherbys since 2002.
It is a fitting memorial that Richard’s name will now be forever etched into the annals of racing history, and we wish all the connections the best of luck in today’s race.

THE JOHN BIGG “OXO” HANDICAP CHASE
The feature race on today’s card is the John Bigg “Oxo” Handicap Chase, named after the 1959 Grand National winner.
Oxo, a bay gelding, was bred in Dorset by Mr A C Wyatt and foaled in 1951. His pedigree was more akin to a Flat horse. He was by Bobsleigh out of Patum and was a half-brother to the 1954 Chester Cup winner Peperium. He was also from the same family as the 1958 Derby winner Hard Ridden. He was sold for 400gns as a yearling to Mr Geoffrey Mason, a Norfolk farmer
Being backward and overgrown, he was not trained seriously in his younger days Mason sent him hunting, ridden by his son Peter, who won two point-to-points on him at Cottenham in October 1957 When increasing weight forced the son to give up race-riding, Oxo was sold to Bedfordshire farmer John Bigg at Newmarket’s 1957 Second October Sales for 3,200gns, which was considered a huge price at the time and is equivalent to approximately £81,600 today.
Bigg sent Oxo to Willie Stephenson, who trained at nearby Royston and had won the 1951 Derby with Arctic Prince and the Champion Hurdle three years running with Sir Ken (1952/53/54).
Oxo made an instant impact, winning two novice chases at Nottingham and Kempton early in 1958.
Prior to running in the 1959 Grand National he’d won two races that season, at Lingfield and Kempton in December 1958.
A field of thirty-four lined-up at Aintree on Saturday 21st March, where the ground was described as “good” Oxo was sent off 8/1 second favourite behind 6/1 shot Mr What, who had won the National the previous year He was prominent from Becher’s Brook on the second circuit, staying on strongly under Michael Scudamore, father of Peter, grandfather of Tom and Michael, to deny Wyndburgh, who was ridden for the last mile without irons by champion jockey Tim Brookshaw. John Bigg won £1,000 from a local bookmaker for a £30 stake. He also coupled Oxo in a double with Luton to win the FA Cup and he was crowned leading owner of the 1958/59 season.
Wyndburgh and fourth-placed Tiberetta (dam of 1969 Hennessy Gold Cup winner Spanish Steps) were both finishing in the places for the third consecutive year whilst Mr What was third again in the 1962 Grand National.
Unfortunately, Oxo broke down while being prepared for the 1960 Grand National. He never won another race but returned to Aintree to finish third in the 1960 Becher Chase, beaten less than a length. He was pulled up at Becher’s second time on his only other Grand National run in 1961.
Seven months later, and still at the relatively young age of 10, Oxo ran his last race on Saturday 21 October in the 3m 200yds Ermine Street Handicap Chase here at Huntingdon. He was pulled up
In March 1971, thieves broke into John Bigg’s home at Godmanchester and got away with silverware and three paintings. However, they missed the solid gold Grand National trophy worth £1,500 which was in John’s bedroom where his dog lay asleep We are thrilled that the original Grand National trophy will be presented to the owners of today’s winner
In 1994, John - then aged 92 - was still actively involved in racing and had a half share with Rugeley trainer Reg Hollinshead in the colt Arc Bright which Frankie Dettori rode to success for them at Wolverhampton that January.

EXIMIA starts off for Venetia Willams off a temping mark given the useful form she showed in France for previous connections so gets the vote over Lounge Lizard, who arrives on the back of an excellent second in a Premier Handicap at Cheltenham. EMERGENCY EVACUATION
Huntingdon Racecourse has significantly enhanced Safety and Security measures this year to enhance your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance. Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via an emergency evacuation gate, either to the assembly Point behind the Clubhouse, overflow to the picnic car park or if both these areas are compromised then to use the Centre of the Course, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember; take your belongings with you under the directions of the Stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
IMPORTANT NOTICES
HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE
The Racecourse would be grateful if racegoers would observe all Health and Safety requirements whilst at Huntingdon Racecourse. The Emergency Exits from the Bars onto the Grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would appreciate it if Racegoers would not stop in this area. We would also be grateful if only those that are Disabled use the Disabled Viewing Ramp and that parents keep a close eye on children and prevent them from climbing on the running rails and getting onto the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the FIRST AID room is located on the ground floor of the Cromwell Stand. Public access is prohibited to the Centre Course.
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Huntingdon Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.
If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Racegoers please note it is not permitted to take photographs on racecourses except within the areas normally open to the public. Amateur photographers must ensure that they do not intrude upon areas used by professional photographers. Flash photography is not permitted in any circumstances.
