Raceday Secretary raceday@hexham-racecourse.co.uk

This meeting last year was abandoned 2 days before racing was scheduled to take place due to the course being waterlogged as a result of such a wet winter and spring. The opposite is happening this year as we are experiencing the driest January, February and March to date since 2020, as a result the course has been watered to provide the good safe ground Hexham is renowned for.

As always a huge thanks to our sponsors Mick Walsh, responsible for the 3rd race “Mick Walsh Open Ditch Novices Handicap Chase” together with the family of Noreen Wilson who have sponsored a race in her memory and Margaret Watling, we hope she has an enjoyable birthday

The children from Caedmon Primary School, Gateshead are in attendance today with Racing To School, a small charity working for and across the sport of Horseracing to educate and promote the sport.

Whether you are a first time visitor or a regular racegoer at Hexham we value your custom and hope you have an enjoyable and successful day.

Robert Whitelock

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’yards and studs.

They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.

The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives. Please scan this QR code to donate, if you can.

2024: MEETING ABANDONED

Running for the first time since Wind Surgery No. 4. Stewards Note: SHADOWS IN THE SKY: Following its run on 13/3/2025 it was reported that the horse made a bad jumping mistake.

Probable S.P’s: 3-1 Red Cadillac (IRE), 11-2 Final Edgar (IRE), 6-1 Cage Rattler (IRE), 7-1 Les’s Legacy (GB), 10-1 Knomorediamonds (FR), 12-1 Noble Affair (IRE), 14-1 Always A Reason (IRE), 20-1 Romeo Brown (GB), 28-1 Shadows In The Sky (IRE), 33-1 Blakey Boy (IRE), 40-1 Benito (FR)

The vote goes to CAGE RATTLER, who took a sizeable step forward when third upped to 20.3f on his handicap debut in this sphere at Newcastle and he makes plenty of appeal off the same mark. Red Cadillac appears to be gradually progressing with experience and is feared on the back of his solid Uttoxeter second last time, while Final Edgar, Knomorediamonds and Les’s Legacy all need considering having slipped to dangerous marks.

BLANC: Following its run on 7/3/2025 it was reported that the horse lost both front shoes.

FOREST BLAZE failed to fire when only seventh behind Bollin Neil at Catterick but he was in good heart prior to that and may well bounce back now returned to the scene of his breakthrough success in December Bollin Neil remains nicely treated following a 5lb rise for that success and should be in the mix but bigger threats over this trip may be posed by It’s Dan and Tan Law, both of whom took steps back in the right direction last time.

FORM 122441 CD

TIMEFORM VIEW Finally came good in 2 1/2m handicap at Carlisle in November Back to form when resuming winning ways under this rider over C&D 12 days ago by 1/2 length from Halpha Soleil. However, looks up against it racing off a 11lb higher mark (7lb out of the weights).

CHOOSE A COPPER: Following its run on 2/2/2025 it was reported that the horse was found to have bled.

Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Grand Voyage (FR), Halpha Soleil (FR), 11-2 Yealand (IRE), 17-2 Jet Legs (IRE), 12-1 Lieutenant Command (FR), Divas Doyen (IRE), 16-1 Choose A Copper (IRE), 25-1 Trac (FR)

LIEUTENANT COMMAND shaped as if back in form starting out for another new yard at Carlisle 5 weeks ago until his stamina ran dry and is potentially on a handy mark back down in class/distance. Halpha Soleil enhanced his decent record here when a good second over C&D 12 days ago so is another to consider along with Grand Voyage, who should remain competitive having ended his losing run at Ayr last time.

IMPERFECTLYPERFECT gets the nod on the back of a promising bumper debut at Kelso last month. Donald McCain’s Nseventeen was third in a decent Irish point last March and would rate a possible big threat if the betting speaks for him.
