WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

It is a pleasure to welcome all Owners, Trainers and Racegoers to Britain’s Most Scenic Racecourse, we hope everyone enjoys the live action on the track here, featuring the most important 3yo race of the day “The Juvenile Hurdle” as well as racing on TV ‘s and the large screen from Epsom where the Derby is taking place todays richest 3yo race

Due to recent industry discussions and an announcement by the BHA, in 2024 and 2025 could see the first race at this and our other Saturday fixtures in May and June going off at 4.00pm instead of a usual start time of between 1.00pm – 2.00pm. This is due to the creation by the BHA of Premier Fixtures which will be allowed to run races in a protected time slot of between 2.00pm – 4.00pm. Hexham does not meet the criteria for a Premier Fixture therefore we will be pushed into a later starting time We will keep everyone updated once the BHA finalise details and more information is available

Thanks today go to Quarrell family who have sponsored the third race for Michael to mark his recent retirement together with today’s other sponsors Equestrianeye.com, Langley Castle Hotel and N-E Bet.

Whilst on the racecourse should you require assistance please contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or ask any member of racecourse, stewarding or catering staff who will happily assist

I hope all Owners, Trainers and Racegoers in attendance today have an enjoyable and successful day.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners

Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

EBENDI: Following its run on 16/5/2023 it was reported that the horse lost a shoe.

Probable S.P’s: 11-2 Lord Caprio (IRE), 17-2 Just Call Me Al (IRE), 9-1 Bushmill Boy (GB), 10-1 Chancer Dancer (IRE), 12-1 Methusalar (IRE), Female Approach (IRE), Royal Mer (FR), 14-1 Blame Rose (IRE), 16-1 Turkey And Ham (IRE), Sea Prince (FR), 28-1 Shantou’s Temple (GB), Ebendi (IRE), Mactavish (GB), 50-1 Comeonrita (GB), 66-1 Sight Nor Seen (IRE), Miss Blennerhasset (IRE)

LORD CAPRIO stayed well on the Flat and finished to good effect over 2m here last time, so he might be able to up his game trying this distance for the first time. Chancer Dancer is open to improvement and looks a threat, while market support for Female Approach would look significant.
