It is best to travel home if it is safe to do so. • Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitiser and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately. • Familiarise yourself with your entry point and the location of amenities within the racecourse. • We are operating a cashless event. EPSOM DOWNS RACECOURSE WELCOMES YOU Welcome to Epsom Downs Racecourse. A very warm welcome to Epsom Downs this afternoon for our final meeting of the season, and what a season it has been! In June we witnessed history being made by Frankie Dettori and Snowfall, who recorded the biggest ever winning distance in The Cazoo Oaks. The following day, Adayar triumphed in authoritative fashion in The Cazoo Derby. His exploits since have proved it was no fluke. Not long after we were able to welcome spectators back without restrictions, Pat Sharp put on a superb 'through the decades' DJ set which had everyone dancing the night away. We were blessed with fantastic weather for our Family Fun Day and over 7,000 people came to enjoy the fantastic racing and entertainment. On to matters present, we have seven exciting races to enjoy today including a race which could bear some significance next year. The winner of this afternoon's Cazoo Derby 'Wildcard' EBF Conditions Stakes will gain an automatic entry into the 2022 Cazoo Derby, so we will all be keeping a watchful eye as the race unfolds. We also have the Apprentice's Derby Handicap, which gives young up and coming jockeys the chance to ride over the iconic Derby course. Lining up in the race is Berrahri, a horse who has run a remarkable 114 times in his career to date, winning 19 times. Four of those victories have come here at Epsom, including in last month's Jump Jockeys Derby. We also have some fantastic family entertainment on offer, including pony rides, face painters, arts and crafts and 'Derby Hoppers' to inspire the next generation of jockeys. We are very grateful to Shanly Homes for their generous sponsorship of the Shanly Homes Handicap at 3.55. We ask all attendees to read the advice later in this racecard, which explains what we can all do to keep each other safe whilst on course I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck and I hope that you have a wonderful time with us here at Epsom Downs. JOHN SUTCLIFFE 1940-2021

John Sutcliffe, who landed a host of big-race winners in a 31-year training career in Epsom, sadly passed away recently at the age of 81. The son of John Sutcliffe Senior, who trained Specify to win the 1971 Grand National, John rode successfully over Jumps, being crowned Champion National Hunt Amateur in the 1958-59 season. He commenced training in 1962, from Woodruffe House in Epsom where he spent his entire career until retirement in 1993. John trained 690 winners in Britain, 603 of them on the Flat, though several major Jump winners included KILDEVIN in the 1965 Imperial Cup Hurdle at Sandown Park. His best horse was RIGHT TACK, who won both the British and Irish 2000 Guineas in 1969, and won the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in the same year. The same horse won the Middle Park Stakes as a 2yo in 1968. In 1969 John also trained the winner of the Sussex Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in JIMMY REPPIN. Right Tack was the last Classic winner to be trained in Epsom until the Laura Mongan-trained Harbour Law won the St Leger in 2016.

PLAY SMARTER

A tight-knit nursery on form but WATCHYA gets the nod given he shaped as though this step up to 7f would really suit when runner-up at Haydock at the start of the month. Safra is weighted to go well and feared most, especially if not ridden so forcefully as when a fading third at Southwell, while Thirsk scorer Galileo Glass is another who is well worth a second look.

SIR DAVID PROSSER TROPHY TO BE AWARDED TO MOST SUCCESSFUL EPSOM TRAINER

The Sir David Prosser Trophy celebrates the achievements of the most successful Epsom-based trainer from the 2021 racing season. The trophy was named in Sir David Prosser’s honour on his retirement from the non-executive board of Epsom Downs in 2013. Sir David made an enormous contribution to the development of the racecourse over many years and remained a loyal supporter of Epsom Downs and the local training community until his passing in March 2020. Wins at all racecourses across the country count towards the trophy and Simon Dow leads the way with 19 winners so far. Jim Boyle lies in second place with 16 winners followed closely by Michael Attwater in third place on 15 winners. Standings as of 23rd September 2021. Trainer

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Epsom Downs Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
