A very warm welcome to all our racegoers joining us for today’s BetVictor Christmas Raceday. We hope you’re enjoying the festive atmosphere and had the chance to sample the complimentary mulled wine and mince pies available for the first 500 racegoers through the gates. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank today’s sponsors - The Queens Arms in East Garston, Amber River Life Landscaping, JM Finn, European Breeders’ Fund, the family and friends of Chris Wood, and our long-standing partner BetVictor for their generous support. The BetVictor Juvenile Hurdle is the second race on the card, featuring ten three-year-olds lining up for the two-mile contest. Among them is the only filly in the race, Love Sonnet, who scored a nice win for the Tim Vaughan stable at Hereford last month. Jockey James Davies will be hoping to repeat that success this afternoon. The biggest field of the day comes in the BetVictor Maiden Hurdle, run over the same distance. This race has been won by Nicky Henderson four times in the past seven years, including with I Am Maximus in 2021 before he famously landed the 2024 Grand National for Willie Mullins. The master of Seven Barrows is without a runner in this year’s renewal, but the Dan Skelton team are represented by two runners, with Kadastral looking to be the pick for jockey Harry Skelton. Don’t rush off after the last race - for the first time, we’re thrilled to host the Christmas After Party in The Denman Marquee. Get ready for all your favourite festive anthems with DJ Moonraker keeping the celebrations going this afternoon. Looking ahead, if you’re planning to join us for Coral Challow Hurdle Day on Monday 29th December, we encourage you to get in quickly as discounted tickets are only available until 11:59pm on Monday 22nd December. It promises to be our biggest yet for family fun, featuring a brand-new family zone with face painting, crafts, a children’s disco, and party games. Under 18s go free, and there’s another exciting afterparty to look forward to! We’re also delighted to announce our first two music acts for 2026. Gipsy Kings will perform live after racing on Friday 17th July, followed by Ronan Keating on Saturday 18th July as part of Weatherbys Super Sprint Day. Ultra-discounted Super Early Bird tickets – priced from just £24 - are available for a limited time, so if you’re looking for the best deal or a last-minute Christmas gift, now’s the time to book. Finally, we wish you an enjoyable and successful afternoon. Merry Christmas from all of us here at Newbury!

How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do: 1.
Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: •
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
•
‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
•
What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
•
The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

RACE 7
Race Summary: Anthony Honeyball has targeted this race and has a handful of promising young bumper performers again so newcomer LADY LITIGATOR might be the way to go before any betting clues. Stratford winner Galaxy Star and Saxons Pride give Alan King a strong hand, while Wait For This is another to note for Emma Lavelle.
