Race Descripton

1m 2f 70y colours no horse age st-lb

This one mile, two furlongs about 70 yards race for four-year-olds and upwards is a Group 2 contest and will attract some high-class middle distance performers. Unlike in a handicap when a horse’s official rating reflects the weight that they must carry, in a Group 2 all runners carry the same weight regardless of any previous form. In this case colts and geldings carry 9st 3lb and fillies 9st, although penalties are then awarded to horses that have already won above a certain level - 3lb for a Group 2 victory or 5lb for a Group 1 success.

Probable S.P.’s: 6-4 Point Lonsdale (IRE), 7-2 Mujtaba (GB), 9-2 Foxes Tales (IRE), 5-1 Poker Face (IRE), 10-1 Royal Champion (IRE), 12-1 Layfayette (IRE)

A customary small field for this Group 2 contest but it promises to be a cracker, MUJTABA getting the verdict to make his first outing at pattern level a winning one after his demolition job in a handicap at Newbury 6 months ago. Point Lonsdale wasted no time getting back on the up when making a winning return at the Curragh last month, so he’s put forward as the main danger, with recent Kempton scorer Foxes Tales taken to fill out third spot.
