TONIGHT’S RACING

TONIGHT’S SPONSORS

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

This evening, our feature race is the eighth running of the Bet365 Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes. Previous winners of this race have included the classic winning filly of the 1000 gns, Billesdon Brook and the multiple Group 1 winning filly, Highfield Princess. This year’s renewal looks to be a cracking contest with eleven top class fillies set to go to post with Jabaara, rated 107, setting the standard, having won the Listed Edinburgh Gin Queen of Scots British EBF Fillies’ Stakes last time out.

Jabaara will have no easy task here with four of the eleven fillies rated over 100, all of whom having shown that they are well up to listed race class; Miss Information, rated 99, will be snapping at their heels, having won the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot a couple of weeks ago, proving she is to be respected.

We are looking forward to some fantastic racing on this glorious summer evening and I hope you manage to find some winners.

For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

CITY SELECTIONS

An Bradan Feasa won for the first time on the level at Catterick in April and has since backed that up with a couple of creditable efforts. Stepping up in trip may yield further progression, but he might face a stiffer task against some unexposed three-year-olds. Belgravian shed the maiden tag on his handicap debut at Doncaster and is respected off 4lb higher. However, DEEP WATER BAY was a touch unlucky at Nottingham when hampered late on and can gain compensation.

ZIGGY’S MISSILE benefited from a drop in class to score over C&D and the son of Blue Point has every opportunity for further success, despite a 4lb rise. Tan Rapido boasts form with the selection from their meeting at Southwell in April, which gives him a chance of being competitive. The return to the all-weather is a positive for Almaty Star, while last year’s winner The Thames Boatman heads the remainder

Supporting Local Cancer Charity Helen Rollason

As part of our 10 Years of Community campaign we are proud to support local cancer charity Helen Rollason as one of our 10 chosen charities.

Helen Rollason charity’s aim is to provide a safe, welcoming space where people can be themselves without needing to put on a brave face. They offer a wide range of care and support, including complementary therapies, calming treatments, counselling, mindfulness, yoga, and more. This support extends through every stage of the journey, from diagnosis to treatment and recovery.

Founded in 1999, the charity is the legacy of BBC broadcaster Helen Rollason whose vision was “Good quality of life while coping with cancer is the most important gift a sick person can receive. It should be available to everyone”.

Helen was a remarkable woman. She became one of the UK’s most popular sports TV presenters beginning her career at Essex Radio in 1980, before her fight against cancer which inspired millions of people.

Her services to broadcasting and work for charity, which led to the formation of Helen Rollason Cancer Charity was recognised with an MBE before she died aged just 43

Beneficiary Katie’s Story

“In December 2023 my husband Adam was diagnosed with lung cancer, and I felt completely overwhelmed emotionally, having seven children to look after I had to give up work and didn’t know where to go for help. I felt like I was drowning trying to be strong for the children, but not knowing what the outcome would be, it was difficult for myself to hold it together.

My friend recommended Helen Rollason and encouraged me to reach out to them. If it wasn’t for her, I would never have gone.

The charity has given me support when I most needed it. I was able to just drop in and have a cup of tea at any time and offload, they hold ladies’ sessions where you can meet other people, and I was also offered massages and reflexology They were brilliant with my youngest who has additional needs and have been there for our whole family at our time of need.

I saw that they were looking for people to run the London Marathon this year to raise vital funds for their charity, so I signed up, not having much time to train but so proud of myself that I completed it and raised an incredible £3100!

There will never be enough words to thank Helen Rollason, they have been there keeping me sane when I wanted to break, and I would encourage anyone in a similar situation to reach out”

Jo Head of Community & Charity at Chelmsford City Racecourse said “Katie is a truly inspirational amazing lady and Helen Rollason charity helps lots of people in the community in similar situations struggling with cancer or supporting a family member They rely on the generosity of the public which is why supporting local charities is so important to us as part of our community outreach.”

Zoe Jay Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Helen Rollason added “Helen Rollason Cancer Charity is delighted to be chosen as one of the charity’s Chelmsford City Racecourse are supporting in 2025 to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. Being part of the local community in Essex is important for both organisations developing strong relationships and supporting those in need.

At Helen Rollason Cancer Charity we rely on good partnerships to help us raise money which enables us to continue to support those living with cancer We are so grateful to Chelmsford City Racecourse.”

LITTLE KEILEE found the competition too hot in a higher grade at Newmarket last week. She finished runner-up at the same track before that, in a race that has worked out well, and a similar effort here could see James Owen’s mare pick up the winning thread. Finbar’s Lad acquitted himself well when third at Doncaster and is likely to prove competitive back on the all-weather. Rich Rhythm and Stella Hogan are not without claims, although they haven’t been done any favours with the high.

Jabaara arrives fresh from a Listed victory at Musselburgh, although she will need to be quickly away from her high draw to take up her usual prominent position. Miss Information represents last year’s winning yard and could prove competitive at this level after landing the Kensington Palace at Royal Ascot, but CLOUD COVER may edge affairs. The daughter of Night Of Thunder won a Listed contest on the Polytrack at Deauville back in December and, rested since disappointing at the All-Weather Championships in April, James Tate’s mare is taken to bounce back.

CLOUD COVER proved a disappointment after a sluggish start at Newcastle in April but given her overall profile, she’s not the type to stay down for long so is well worth another chance. Stop The Cavalry shaped as if needing the run when behind the reopposing Jabaara at Musselburgh on her reappearance and should be much closer to form this time. Jabaara has to be respected, along with Miss Information, who landed a Royal Ascot handicap in good style recently

MR HAMPSTEAD’s mid-division finish in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting reads well and the son of Galileo is a most notable option back in these much calmer waters. Now tried with a tongue-tie added, this low-mileage four-year-old could be a cut above the rest if he adapts to the surface on his Polytrack debut. Blindedbythelights, Trouville and Vino Victrix add depth to the race and are key players suggested for the shortlist.
