CITY SELECTIONS Gloucestershire, a winner over 1m4f on the all-weather during a stint in the US, is respected but faces a stiff test conceding weight to the much improved TARBAAN, who won with plenty in hand over C&D a fortnight ago. The fitting of blinkers revved him up that day and, with the headgear retained, he is fancied to go in again from just a 4lb higher mark. Diamond Ranger reopposes on 4lb better terms from that race and is also considered.

It was no great surprise that DIAMOND RANGER’s effort petered out in the closing stages when third in the C&D handicap won by Tarbaan a fortnight ago, given that he made a big move to get into contention 2f out. Now 4lb better off with the winner and armed with first-time cheekpieces, George Boughey’s charge is taken to get the better of Tarbaan this time. Gloucestershire looks the pick of the remaining quartet.
