Evening Racing

Christmas is drawing ever closer and to get everyone into the festive spirit, the Fairwood brasserie is offering, throughout December, a special “Christmas dinner” themed package. There will be all the usual favourites roast turkey, pigs-in-blankets, mince pies, Christmas pudding, as well as a few surprises. This is a great way to start celebrating Christmas, whilst enjoying an evening of fantastic racing, so do come along and join us. More immediately, we have seven races for you tonight, so good luck in finding some winners and I hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
For more information about any of these events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Perdika caught the eye when scoring on her most recent outing at Southwell and even a double penalty may not be enough to stop her from securing a treble today However, MAGGIE’S WAY built on her racecourse bow to record a good second at Kempton last time out and further improvement may be forthcoming. Densetsu should also be respected in an open event, while Immersion is a newcomer to note.

Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Maggie’s Way (GB), 5-1 Densetsu (IRE), 11-2 Perdika (GB), 13-2 Sophia’s Starlight (FR), 12-1 Third Batch (GB), Clandestinely (IRE), Isadora’s Gift (GB), 14-1 Immersion (FR), 20-1 Abbey’s Dream (GB), 40-1 Blue Curacao (GB), 100-1 Betterment (GB), Specialist View (GB)
A few of these offer potential but MAGGIE’S WAY holds the clear edge on form so gets the vote on the back of her clear Kempton second. Newmarket debut third Densetsu is feared most, with Perdika and Sophia’s Starlight also firmly in the picture.
A case can be made for plenty of these but preference is for ONE FOR THE FROG. The son of Dabirsim could benefit from a drop in trip having been headed inside the final furlong on his racecourse bow last month, but that was a pleasing debut nonetheless and he is entitled to improve for the experience. Colombidea has contested some tough races on turf recently and is feared most, ahead of Yakhabar

ONE FOR THE FROG produced a promising first effort when runner-up at Southwell 13 days ago and is selected to go one better with improvement on the cards. Colombidea ought to be more competitive dropping back in trip, while newcomer Bluebells Boy wouldn’t need to be anything out of the ordinary to make an impact.
MOUNTAIN ROAD got off the mark at the sixth time of asking over 2m here last time and he merits the utmost respect this evening off just 3lb higher Dubai Leader won well at Kempton last week and he is likely to go well again, despite a 6lb penalty. Wagga Wagga had been progressive until his defeat at Newbury in August and he is capable of bouncing back following a gelding operation.

Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Wagga Wagga (IRE), 4-1 Mountain Road (FR), 9-2 Dubai Leader (GB), 10-1 Sea Grey (GB), 12-1 Artistic Choice (IRE), Myriad (IRE), 14-1 Spit Spot (GB), 16-1 Pons Aelius (IRE)
DUBAI LEADER had a bit left in the locker when scoring at Kempton last week so gets the vote turned out under a 6lb penalty. Both Wagga Wagga and Sea Grey look to have better days ahead of them too so appeal as the duo to chase home the selection in that order.
LAHEG was all out to win over C&D last month but he remains unexposed after just six starts and a 3lb rise for that victory may not be enough to stop him from landing the double. He is preferred to the in-form Twilight Heir, who has not been outside the first two in his last three starts, and Ernie’s Valentine, whose last win came over C&D off 2lb lower.

LAHEG took his form up a notch when scoring over C&D last month and still relatively unexposed, he’s fancied to make light of a subsequent 3lb rise. Twilight Heir is going through a fine spell so he can give the selection most to think about, with Gabrial The Devil is also fancied to go well.

NINE TALES brings solid form to the table and it would be no surprise to see him go well on his return to action this evening. Larado is 2lb higher than when winning at Epsom in August and he too merits serious consideration. Lady Eros, who cost 345,000 dollars as a yearling, remains unexposed and is also highly interesting on her handicap bow, while Meng Tian completes the shortlist.
