HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay.

It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled Car Park.

RACE CONDITIONS

For today’s race conditions, please see page 31.

SHUTTLE BUS

Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not without hope.

BF = Beaten Favourite

d = disqualified

Bold form figures = All-Weather form

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RACE FACTS

Leading course trainer (19-24): M Dods (13 wins from 101 runners, 13%) runs LANGHOLM

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): L Bailey (1 win from 9 runners, 11%) runs ESSENCIAL

Weightwatcher: LANGHOLM won off a handicap mark of 62, his rating is now down 8lb to 54.

Longest Traveller: HAILEY YA MAL trained by A Brittain, Warthill, 50 miles.

TODAY’S TIP

Plenty are in with a shout but LANGHOLM can boast a C&D success and rates the pick of these weights so edges the vote. Asmund is another weighted to have a say and next on the list with Shotley Royale appealing as the pick of the remainder for place purposes.

TODAY’S TIP

A tight-knit handicap in which marginal preference is for TARBAT NESS who can build on a recent Wolverhampton sixth after an absence and is weighted to get back to winning ways. Sugarpiehoneybunch andTwoforthegutter didn’t enjoy the rub of the green on their most recent starts here and at Wolverhampton respectively and can chase home John Berry’s 5-y-o in that order

RACE FACTS

Leading course trainer (19-24): T Easterby (48 wins from 425 runners, 11%) runs MUSIC SOCIETY

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (5 wins from 60 runners, 8%) runs MUSIC SOCIETY

Weightwatcher: MUSIC SOCIETY won off a handicap mark of 81, his rating is now down 9lb to 72.

Longest Traveller: JUNGLE CHARM trained by A Watson, Upper Lambourn, 234 miles.

TODAY’S TIP

HIGHJACKED encountered traffic problems at the business end when fifth in a Thirsk handicap on his reappearance three weeks ago, and he is appealing off the same mark here (4lb below that off which he last hit the target) with that run under his belt. The progressive Trilby will be a big threat if the quick turnaround doesn’t find him out following his Haydock success on Saturday Slainte Mhath has resumed this season with solid efforts in defeat at Catterick and Thirsk and she also has claims.
