Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our Summer June Raceday.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new CEO here at Newbury Racecourse. Originally from Newmarket, horse racing is a familiar part of my life and it’s a great privilege to be joining a racecourse with the prestige and heritage of Newbury. I’m tremendously excited and look forward to helping deliver the next chapter in this racecourse’s great history.
We’ve an enjoyable afternoon in store and our thanks go to today’s sponsors, Grundon, Country and Town House, Darley, European Breeders’ Fund, Racing Club, Pump Technology, and our long-standing partner BetVictor.
Looking slightly further ahead – and after its popular debut in 2023 – the Racecourse’s Summer Evening Series returns this July with three raceday parties presented in partnership with Hits Radio. The series charts three Thursday evenings with brand new raceday themes announced for 2024. Racegoers can enjoy ‘The Garden Party’ on Thursday 4th July, ‘The Wild Wild West’ on Thursday 11th July and ‘The Beach Club’ on Thursday 25th July.
And while the Summer Evening Series is just around the corner it’s also now less than six weeks until we welcome super-producer and DJ, Sigala, for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day on Saturday 20th July before Dizzee Rascal - one of the most successful British rappers of all time - joins us at BetVictor Hungerford Day on Saturday 17th August. Discounted tickets – and a range of hospitality packages - are currently available for both racedays, but only for a limited time.
Finally, I would like to thank all our racegoers for joining us today. I hope you have an enjoyable afternoon and that we will see you again for our first evening meeting of the year, the Midsummer Raceday on Tuesday 25th June.
Shaun Hinds Chief Executive Newbury RacecourseThere are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Race Summary: Plenty to like about Hadaaya’s debut success, and the way his year younger stablemate Mobaasher made ground in the closing stages. Both looked capable of further progression and won’t be in novice company for long. The Al Asayl pair boast some smart pedigrees and could make their trainer Hugo Palmer’s first foray into Arabian racing a winning one if straight enough. However FAREEDHAT EL IZZ is effectively a winner without a penalty, she liked to race prominently in Europe and a return to this trip on quicker ground should suit for a stable in red hot form.
