OTHER USEFUL DETAILS
6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey

8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10. Horse’s age
11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs)

13. Horse’s owner
14. Horse’s breeder
15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)
16. Draw – position of the horse in the starting stalls
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

There should be more to come from MOUNT GALLION, who built on his eye-catching run at Newcastle when landing a Huntingdon maiden earlier this month and this opening mark doesn’t look excessive. This has the look a of a pretty useful novice event and MR BRAMLEY gets the nod. He improved with each of his three starts in bumpers and continued on an upward curve when striking on debut in this sphere at Bangor Panhandle Slim, who put in a good shift behind the selection at Bangor and should be suited by this stiffer track, is the danger The hat-trick seeking Looking As You Are is also accorded respect.

PLAY SMARTER
This looks trappy, with all five of these in with a fighting chance. GO BOY looked good when making a winning debut for this yard here in December and, though not so good at Kelso subsequently, he is appealing back here given his record on right-hand tracks (2-3 going this way round under Rules) Ned Tanner will be a threat if he gets into a good rhythm jumping-wise and is feared most ahead of High Moon and Geryville. Go Boy’s stablemate Flower of Scotland will probably find this trip too sharp

Duke of Navan was one of the flag bearing northern horses for a few good years and had wins as a novice hurdler before winning the Class 2 Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso in 2012. He won his first Novice Chase here at Carlisle in 2014 & followed it up by winning the Listed Handicap Chase at Ayr during the Scottish National meeting.
Duke of Navan was in training with local trainer Nicky Richards for owners David & Nicky Robinson. He was broken in by Brian Harding who was his jockey until he retired in 2017, then Ryan Day & Danny McMenamin took over.

He has gone full circle and is now living the good life with Brian’s wife Kelly who has been doing lots of different activities with him including fun rides, camps, hunting, dressage, showing and much more!
What he loves: Duke of Navan loves attention and is adored by all of us, he still gets visits from all who have been involved with him from the beginning.
Duke of Navan will be joining us at Carlisle throughout the year, take a look at our website for further details on upcoming events.

The vote goes to ENEMYATTHE GATE, who is of strong interest on just his second run over a trip in excess of 3m and he shaped for all the world as though going back up in distance would be very much in his favour when third over 19.3f here last time. PLAY SMARTER
This looks pretty competitive and the vote goes to MASTER BREFFNI, who had matters under control when departing at the final fence at Catterick and this drop back in trip is unlikely to be an issue. Final Edgar looks a big threat with talented conditional William Maggs booked, while Masked Crusader and Follow Charlie are others who command respect.
TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.MASTER BREFFNI (IRE) 2.FINAL EDGAR (IRE) 3.MASKED CRUSADER (FR)

In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, British Horseracing Authority Officials and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the Parade Ring are asked to refrain from entering this area unless it is absolutely necessary in the course of their business.

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards In addition Carlisle Racecourse employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
