The master of Belstane Stables is enjoying yet another superb year on the Flat and had a two year-old winner here last Monday with the first time out Prince Of Pillo who was very impressive in winning the Hospitality At Scottish Sun Ladies Night Restricted Novice Stakes under Callum Rodriguez. He runs another juvenile Rory The Cat in the maiden at 2.25pm and saddles Aberama Gold in today’s feature the Ayr Gold Cup Trial Handicap over six furlongs. The five year-old was touched off by a head by Quest For Fun here earlier in the month and will be hoping to turn the tables on that rival this afternoon.

Callum is a rider who has enjoyed a steady rise through the ranks since riding his first winner in 2015. He enjoyed his best ever yearly total last year when he rode an impressive 76 winners and he is continuing that run of form this year. He was seen o good effect here last Monday when riding Prince Pillo to win the novice stakes and his mounts this afternoon include another Keith Dalgleish two year-old – Rory The Cat in the Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Maiden Stakes at 2.25pm.

Ewan took over the Hawick stable from his father last year and is building up a good team of horses under both codes and comes here with three runners today. One of these is Jordan Electrics who runs in the feature contest the Ayr Gold Cup Trial with Rowan Scott riding. The six year-old has won twice here and was second in a big York handicap earlier this month after being touched off here in June by Call Me Ginger.

Since riding his first ever winner here in 2012 when he was presented with his prize by Prince Charles, Connor hasn’t looked back and enjoyed his best ever year in 2021 with 72 winners. He is already homing in on that total having notched well over 50 wins already this year. He has every chance of adding to that this afternoon as he has a strong book of rides including Spice Store for Michael & David Easterby in the Book Direct At Western House Hotel Handicap over seven furlongs.
