Allerton Park Horse Trials

WELCOME TO ALLERTON PARK WELCOME TO ALLERTON PARK 25TH ANNIVERSARY HORSE TRIALS Nearly 30 years ago, inspired by the wonderful parkland, the idea of running a horse trials at Allerton was suggested to Edward Stourton by Derek Orchard and others. After some years of discussion the first trials were run as a Pre-Novice competition in August 1996. 25 years on the horse trials flourish in the beautiful historic lakeside setting. Sadly, Edward will not be able to join us this year, but the trials will serve as a lasting legacy to his inspiration for which we are deeply indebted. We have built the new Dew Pond water complex in celebration of our 25th anniversary, and look forward to all the excitement it brings for many years to come. In addition the tracks have been reorganised to incorporate this feature. Please enjoy a weekend of exciting sport in the beauty of our historic parkland. We trust that riders and spectators alike will appreciate this special environment, and respect and enjoy its wildlife. GRATEFUL THANKS We are hugely thankful to our huge band of volunteers - judges, starters, timekeepers, stewards, farriers and the many volunteers who give their time so generously throughout the year and at the event, and without whose help, this event would not be possible. We owe very special thanks to our highly professional emergency teams of doctors and veterinary surgeons, whose expertise and advice is totally invaluable. And finally, special thanks to the Estate Staff for all their work throughout the year, and to our grazier Simon Armstrong, who looks after the pasture so well and is exceptionally tolerant of our requests to move his sheep about. OLYMPIC LEGACY Allerton Park Horse Trials are honoured to be a beneficiary of the 2012 Olympic Legacy in the form of two jump complexes from the Greenwich Olympic Eventing cross-country course as jumped by our Silver Medal-winning team GB - The Chestnut Log Complex and The East End Barrows. NO DOGS OFF LEADS - FINE £20 NO DRIVING OF UNAUTHORISED VEHICLES OUTSIDE CAR PARKS Go to: www.eventingscores.co.uk, select Allerton Park, Go to Links and click On-line Programme.

HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY GENERAL 1. The Event Organiser, named in the programme, has overall responsibility for health and safety and appoints a Health and Safety Steward, named in the programme, to ensure that all the appropriate Health and Safety legislation is complied with and that sufficient steps have been taken to ensure the health, safety and welfare of competitors, public, officials and horses. 2. The Organiser also undertakes to run the competition in accordance with the British Eventing [BE] rules and guidance. 3. The Organiser has taken all steps to ensure all Chief Stewards appointed by the Organiser have received, read and understood the relevant section of the guidance to ensure they are aware of the rules, requirements and standards for their area of responsibility. 4. The Health and Safety Steward (primarily) and the Organiser have taken all reasonable steps to ensure the event site and provisions (so far as is reasonably practicable) are properly provided and subject to a risk assessment. OFFICIALS 5. All appointed Stewards, Judges and Officials are briefed in their duties and provided with the relevant equipment to carry out their duties. 6. They are required to bring to the attention of the Health and Safety Steward any concerns they have for the Health, Safety and Welfare of the public and the officials. 7. They are required to bring to the attention of the BE Technical Adviser or BE Steward any concerns they may have for the Health, Safety and Welfare of the competitors or any competition provision. 8. They are required to conduct themselves in such a manner not to put their self or anyone else at risk and maintain control of the area around their location. 9. The BE Technical Adviser, BE Steward or Health and Safety Steward are required to ensure the Officials are properly briefed in their duties and are properly equipped. SPECTATORS SAFETY 10. All reasonable and practical steps have been taken to ensure the health, safety and welfare of those attending the event. Spectators are, so far as is reasonably practicable: a) Encouraged to look at directions in the on-line programme at www.eventingscores.co.uk b) Directed clearly to key locations on the event site e.g. information point, toilets, first aid point or competition areas. c) Prevented from straying inadvertently into the path of oncoming horses by defined crossing points, signage, stringing, whistle blasts or public address announcements. ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC 11. The organisers of this event advises you that due to the prevailing weather, uneven and, in parts, irregular terrain at this event, it may at times be difficult for spectators to move around freely and easily. As a result of which, it may not be suitable for those spectators who suffer from certain medical conditions. All spectators enter the event at their own risk and are advised to wear suitable footwear. The organisers shall not incur any liability, except as required by law, in respect of any injury or damage to spectators or their property howsoever caused. CONTRACTORS 12. All contractors working at the Event are required to observe best working practises, comply with all legislation relevant to their business and take all reasonable and practical steps to safeguard their employees and those attending. EXHIBITORS/TRADE STANDS 13. All exhibitors / trade stand are responsible for the safety of their own stands and the risks that they may pose to other persons within the allocated space or immediate surrounding areas. 14. The conduct of the trade area is subject to monitoring by the Health and Safety Steward and Organiser. 15. The exhibitor / trader is responsible for all product liability in line with their statutory duties under trade description legislation. 16. Each exhibitor / trader must ensure they have complied with all statutory legislation regarding equipment testing, staff training and equipment erection. 17. The exhibitor / trader must ensure that they dismantle their equipment without harm to the public if they choose to do so before the close of the event and the public have left. 18. It is a requirement recommended by BE that all Trade Stand Owners ensure they are provided for under their own Third Party insurance for any foreseeable risks. EMERGENCIES 19. The emergency services at the event include the doctors, ambulances, vet and fence repair personnel. They have access to all parts of the site and can be quickly contacted through any steward, judge or official – most immediately through the issue of a personal radio. 20. Accidents involving horses and competitors are well catered for and the appropriate officials are constantly ready to report these as they occur and to call for appropriate emergency services. 21. Emergencies not connected with the competition (e.g. in the catering tent) may be dealt with by the emergency services on the site but outside emergency services (e.g. the fire brigade) may also be needed. 22. Any emergency that occurs on this site must be reported to the Event Organiser as they are responsible for the conduct of the whole Event site.
