Whether you are a new or returning family, please carefully review the information provided in this packet. Together, we can create the best possible experience for your child at Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA).

OUR MISSION

We provide an unparalleled arts and academic education in a creative, challenging, and nurturing environment to a diverse student body passionate about the arts, preparing them to reach their highest potential.

In order to fully understand our business model, here are a few key facts to keep in mind: OCSA is a tuition-free, donation-dependent public charter school.

The academic program is funded by the State of California; however, your child’s arts conservatory experience is supported exclusively by donations. Each year, OCSA must raise approximately $10.25 million to fund the arts conservatory programs.

OCSA Foundation Funding to Bridge the Gap

Conservatory budgets are based solely on parent commitments of cash contributions and participation in fundraising activities.

When you make a pledge to your child’s conservatory, you are making a promise to donate a certain amount throughout the school year. 100% of your pledge will be allocated directly to your child’s conservatory budget. Your donation specifically pays for: salaries for your child’s conservatory director and teachers, facilities, equipment and supplies, performance opportunities, guest artist master teachers, and field trips.

All cash contributions to the school for your child’s conservatory are tax deductible per OCSA’s 501(c)(3) IRS designation.

No student is offered or denied enrollment based upon a family’s ability or willingness to contribute.

If your child were to participate in a traditional public school arts program (i.e. band, cheerleading, dance) outside of OCSA, there would be a “booster club” meeting where each family would be encouraged to consider donating or help raise funds for their child’s experience. The model at OCSA is similar, and we respectfully ask that you consider the conservatory funding request as a comparable responsibility in support of your child’s pre-professional education.

Your donation will support the following: • Salaries for your child’s conservatory director and teachers • Facility expenses • All equipment, supplies, and instructional technology associated with conservatory classes • Performance opportunities, guest artist master teachers, and field trips 3

www.ocsarts.net/ParentPledge Please make a pledge to support your child’s arts education at OCSA by visiting www.ocsarts.net/ParentPledge, where you can complete the Conservatory Funding Agreement (CFA) form for the 2022-2023 school year.

While completing your form, you will be prompted to make a direct, tax-deductible cash contribution to your child’s conservatory. You can select automatic payments or email invoicing for any of the available payment plans: one-time donation, quarterly installments, monthly installments, or your own customized installment schedule.

We recognize that each family has a unique financial situation; however, our goal is 100% participation at whatever level is possible from each family!

Deadline to complete the CFA form for RETURNING families:

June 1, 2022

Individuals will receive receipts each January for their tax-deductible cash donations.

An Additional Way to Help Fund Your CFA Each year, OCSA offers families the opportunity to sell or purchase program advertising space in the school’s 200+ performance programs and/or Gala program. With visibility to all OCSA families and the broader Southern California community, this advertising opportunity is great marketing and exposure for any business, large or small! Prices range from $200 to $7,000, depending upon ad size, color, and location.

Program Ad Submissions Begin:

June 1, 2022

Yearlong Performance Program Ad Submission Deadline:

August 31, 2022

Gala Program Ad Submission Deadline:

January 27, 2023

You can find the advertising form, which includes detailed requirements and a list of ad sizes and costs, at www.ocsarts.net/Advertising.

Please include the completed advertising form, artwork, and payment when submitting your program ad.

Artwork may be submitted following the deadline; however, that may mean that your advertisement will not be included in the programs at the beginning of the school year.

Template solicitation letters and sample programs can be provided upon request to assist you in reaching your fundraising goals.

What is OCSA’s estimated budget for the 2022-2023 school year?

The projected total annual operating budget will be approximately $37.75 million for the 2022-2023 school year. OCSA will receive approximately $27.5 million from the State of California for the academic instructional program. The arts conservatory programs are funded exclusively by donations, and the school needs to raise approximately $10.25 million through parent participation and the work of the OCSA Foundation.

What does the State of California pay for?

OCSA will receive approximately $27.5 million from the State of California in order to support: • 100% of OCSA’s academic instructional expenses, including teacher and support staff salaries, classroom supplies, and professional development • 75% of security expenses, technology expenses, general and administrative expenses, capital expenses, facility expenses, and debt service (mortgage payment) What does the arts conservatory funding pay for?

OCSA must raise approximately $10.25 million for the 2022-2023 school year to pay for 100% of the arts conservatory instructional expenses and the remaining 25% of each of the expenses listed above.

Do these arts conservatory contributions include performance opportunities?

Yes. Each conservatory director will determine their performance calendar for the 2022-2023 school year based upon the budget available from parent pledges made through the CFA form. Additional performance fees may be requested for specific performance opportunities.

Can I donate using my employer’s matching gift program?

Yes. Many corporations offer a matching gift program. For each dollar donated to the school, your employer may match your donation. Additional information can be found at www.ocsarts.net/MatchingGift.

How do I solicit funds from corporations or foundations?

What happens if I cannot donate the full amount associated with my child’s conservatory?

We recognize that each family has a unique financial situation; however, we encourage you to contribute through the CFA form at whatever level is possible. If you are not able to donate the full requested amount for your child’s conservatory, you have the opportunity to sell or purchase program advertising space in the school’s performance programs and/or Gala program. Financial contributions are not required for a child to participate in any conservatory or academic program.

What happens if I do not contribute?

Conservatory budgets are based solely on parent donations and fundraising activities. If there are conservatories with low parent donations/fundraising commitments, those conservatory programs may have a modified or reduced program, including fewer performance opportunities and/or decreased instructional days. If your personal situation changes during the year and you are unable to fulfill your CFA commitment, please contact Becky Parsons, Family Liaison, at 714.560.0900 ext. 5535 or becky.parsons@ocsarts.net.

What is the OCSA Foundation?

Philanthropy plays a key role in OCSA’s ability to provide this transformative arts and academic experience. OCSA is not a private school; as a public charter school, it is tuition free and donation dependent. OCSA serves a diverse student body and is accessible to all students, regardless of their family’s ability or willingness to contribute.

The nonprofit OCSA Foundation helps raise approximately $1.75 million annually in private contributions from individuals, businesses, corporations, and foundations to support the following areas: • State-of-the-art facilities • Support students in need who qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP) through the Artist Scholar Sponsorship Program • Provide funding to recruit industry professionals for the Master Artist Series • Create enriching opportunities and provide necessary equipment and supplies above and beyond the conservatory budgets • Provide accessible community arts engagement programming The OCSA Foundation is not designed to single-handedly fund the day-to-day operations of the school, but rather to partner with parents to provide additional financial support and enrichment opportunities to benefit all students.
