Acting (Ages 8-15)
Acting opens up the imagination! This fun, four-week course introduces students to the art of acting and acquaints them with the fundamentals of rehearsal and performance. Students participate in a variety of acting exercises, improvisation, storytelling, and scene and monologue work, culminating in a “step into the classroom” performance to share with family and friends The goal of the class is for students to experience the creative process and gain confidence while having fun! Enrollment in classes are determined by age groupings (ages 8-10 & 11-15).
Please Note: Performances for these classes are held during class time on Friday, July 24. All students are strongly encouraged to participate to get the most out of the class experience Please plan your schedule accordingly

Animation (Ages 11-15)
Students learn to animate digitally while engaging in the concepts and principles of animation. Emphasis is placed on squash-and-stretch, anticipation, exaggeration, and timing Technical focus includes pose-to-pose, keyframing, tweening, and animation cycles, as well as expression of emotion and gesture through movement with a variety of techniques and approaches. Students are able to create several short animated films throughout the class.

Ceramics (Ages 8-15)
This fun and engaging class challenges students to experience their own creative process through the art of ceramics. Students are introduced to ceramic studio terminology, explore the geological origins of clay and glazes, and learn the science behind how clay becomes ceramic While creating functional ware and decorative pieces, students learn elements of art, design principles, historical and geographical context of ceramic art, and hand-building techniques

Comic Book Writing & Design (Ages 11-15)
Jump into the world of superheroes and villains in this fun and engaging course that allows students to be the writers and designers of their very own comic book story! Students learn the mechanics of how to design and draw comics and write engaging stories and characters that leap off the page! By the end of the class, students will have produced their own original work to be published in a comic book anthology.

Creative Writing (Ages 8-15)
Over the course of four weeks, students are introduced to a broad spectrum of creative writing genres, from poetry to fiction to dramatic writing. Students work on creative writing fundamentals while developing their own creative voice. By the end of the session, students will have produced their own original work to be published in an anthology Enrollment in classes are determined by age groupings (ages 8-10, 11-12 & 13-15)

NEW COURSE: Culinary Arts (Ages 10-15)
In this fun and interactive four-week course, students explore the fundamentals of cooking and food preparation, including measuring, mixing, knife safety, following recipes, teamwork, and kitchen organization Each week, students create tasty dishes while building confidence, independence, and creativity in the kitchen By learning how to make food from start to finish, students develop practical life skills and a lifelong love for cooking! Enrollment in classes are determined by age groupings (ages 10-12 & 13-15).

Digital Art & Design (Ages 11-15)
Intended to be a one-stop introduction to making artwork digitally, students learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create a myriad of exciting projects. Students practice the basics of effectively designing their own personal logos, business cards, typefaces, movie posters, playing cards, 3D cereal boxes, and more! With tons of room for creative expression, this class is a great introduction to the world of digital art and design. This class culminates in a showcase featuring the students’ work.

Digital Character Design (Ages 11-15)
Students learn how to design everything needed to tell a compelling story, including characters, clothing, tools, animals, and environments. Working primarily in Adobe Photoshop, emphasis is placed on process and technique as students design and create characters from scratch. It is recommended to take this course in conjunction with the Animation course

NEW COURSE: Filmmaking
(Ages 11-15)
Students learn film production skills alongside fellow young filmmakers and under the guidance of industry professionals. Over this four-week camp, young storytellers explore the full filmmaking process – from concept to screen Participants develop skills in storytelling, writing, directing, filming, and editing as they collaborate to create their own short films The camp culminates in a completed project that students can share with family and friends.

Integrated Arts Exploration (Ages 5-15)
This unique course explores a variety of art disciplines and gives students a taste of what OCSA’s Integrated Arts Conservatory has to offer. Students have the opportunity to experience a new arts discipline each week (dance, visual arts, creative writing, film, and musical theatre/acting) In this course, students discover their artistic interests, while building important creative skills that can be applied across arts and academic disciplines.

Musical Theatre Revue (Ages 8-15)
This exploratory musical theatre class engages students in the creative process, while giving them foundational skills in singing, acting, and dancing Students learn to find their voice and hone their skills in character development, storytelling, ensemble building, and creative expression At the end of the course, students have the opportunity to show off their hard work in a fun musical revue performance for friends and family to enjoy.

Painting & Drawing (Ages 8-15)
In this fun-filled class, students create artwork based on real-life observation and imaginative design Using step-by-step methods and creative problem-solving, students explore a variety of mediums and techniques for the purpose of building both their skill level and portfolio The class culminates in a gallery-style exhibition of student work for friends and family to enjoy. Enrollment in classes are determined by age groupings (ages 8-10 & 11-15).

Students learn television production skills alongside fellow young creators and under the guidance of industry professionals Over the course of this four-week camp, participants gain hands-on experience in a professional multi-camera television studio and explore the full television production process, including writing, directing, operating cameras, on-air performance, and editing Working collaboratively, they create short television shows and news-style broadcasts, building real-world studio skills and confidence in front of and behind the camera The camp culminates in recorded projects students can share with family and friends Times: 1 – 4 p.m.

ArtSPARKS!
For All Needs & Abilities
ArtSPARKS! (Ages 7-11)
Founded by OCSA student Justin Freeman and sponsored as a project through the Dragon Kim Foundation, ArtSPARKS! is designed specifically for students of all needs and abilities, including those who are neurodivergent or have physical disabilities. This weeklong, inclusive, play-centered course introduces students to a variety of arts disciplines, allowing them to act, sing, dance, and create in a safe, supportive, and fun environment!

CLASSICAL VOICE
Sing OC! (Ages 11-15)
Sing OC! is a vocal intensive program created for young singers. Each class begins and ends with learning choir songs from different parts of the world. Students also attend music classes with master teachers to improve their solo singing technique, musicianship, movement, and more To top it all off, the course concludes with a concert featuring all of the students Join us in creating great music learning and fun!
CREATIVE WRITING
Fiction Writing (Ages 11-15)
Students have the chance to craft and workshop their short stories and novels in a rigorous, pre-professional setting The goal of this one-week workshop is to help students produce a portfolio of polished material suitable for submission to magazines and academic creative writing programs

DANCE
NEW COURSE: Ballet Folklórico (Ages 8-15)
Students explore the vibrant world of Ballet Folklórico through movement, music, and cultural storytelling. In this one-week class, students learn foundational techniques and choreography inspired by traditional Mexican regional dances Through daily instruction, students build rhythm, coordination, and performance skills while gaining an appreciation for the history and cultural significance behind the dances. The week culminates in a fun, informal showcase where students share what they’ve learned with family and friends.

Students are invited to build and create endless possibilities in this innovative course that dives into the world of the best-selling sandbox video game, Minecraft! This interactive course teaches problem solving, creativity, and basic coding as students develop cities, invent original games, and solve design puzzles

Design Lab: LEGO (Ages 8-10)
Students can become a true LEGO master in this exciting and creative one-week course LEGO bricks are the perfect medium for students to practice engineering, design, spatial reasoning, and critical thinking skills, while also creating one-of-a-kind builds. This hands-on learning experience allows students to learn by doing, mixing education with a ton of building fun.

Instrumental Music: Jazz Camp (Ages 11-15)
In this course, students learn skills to enhance their skills in the jazz idiom Utilizing classic jazz repertoire, students develop an understanding of jazz language and history. Students refine their musicianship skills through music listening, ear training, singing, and rhythmic clapping, in addition to enhancing their ensemble and improvisational skills Families and friends are invited to a culminating recital to celebrate the student’s work and learning. Prerequisite: This class is open to musicians of all levels Students need to bring their own instrument and possess basic fundamental abilities (produce consistent tone and major scales).

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (continued)
Instrumental Music: Winds & Percussion Camp (Ages 11-15)
This course offers wind musicians and percussionists an opportunity to collaborate through the performance of chamber music and wind band repertoire. Students engage in daily team-bonding activities, informative presentations, and performance opportunities They are also split into brass and woodwind ensembles to provide an introduction into chamber music. Families and friends are invited to a culminating recital to celebrate the student’s work and learning
Prerequisite: Students must bring their own instrument and will be divided into elementary and intermediate groups Elementary students are those who can read notes and produce sound on their instrument Intermediate students are those that can perform basic sight reading, and some major scales.

POPULAR MUSIC
Songwriting (Ages 11-15)
Calling all songwriters! Looking for a space to improve your songwriting skills? Students are mentored by one of the conservatory's songwriting instructors and current student songwriters from the program Participants study different types of song form, rhyme scheme, and the use of literary aids to further the songwriting process Students are also given the opportunity to compose alone and collaborate with others in the class
Prerequisite: This class is open to songwriters of all levels. We recommend students have access to and proficiency on a secondary instrument (piano or guitar), and to bring a notebook.

This beginning-level class is recommended for students who want to learn basic special effects techniques to understand the application of cuts, bruises, wounds and prosthetics Students receive first-hand experience using professional materials to create realistic wounds, create their own blood syrup, and apply latex prosthetic pieces Students are encouraged to design and execute original effects based on their interests and skill levels. Families and friends are invited to a culminating project to witness students’ creations

Digital Photography (Ages 11-15)
In this immersive class, students learn the basic functions of a digital camera and how to take clear and captivating photographs. Students are invited to work with a DSLR camera, point-and-shoot camera, or cellphone camera. Emphasis is placed on lighting, composition, and execution of creative conceptual ideas, as well as editing using a web-based photo processing software This course is foundational for any student with an interest in photography or digital media.
