KEEPING YOU INFORMED AND CONNECTED

A note from Rob

I hope you have had a great summer so far. Our July series, titled ‘Prophet, Priest, and King,’ dives into how Scripture reveals Jesus as the ultimate fulfillment of three key roles established by God in the Old Testament: Prophet, Priest, and King. Each role uniquely displays an aspect of Him, drawing us into a deeper understanding of who He is and what He has accomplished for us.

Together, these roles remind us that Jesus is not just a distant Savior, but an everpresent leader, advocate, and ruler. As we focus on Christ’s threefold office, we will be challenged to respond by listening to His voice, resting in His grace, and surrendering to His lordship in every area of life. This series invites us to worship Jesus more fully and follow Him more faithfully.

Later this month, we will be having one of my favorite things! It has become an integral part of our church body; it’s our Hunger Revival, July 24-27. Each year, we look forward to this time to come together in unity and anticipation of what God may have in store for NMC as we begin the new school year. Each night, we will have a time of worship and excellent teaching from guest speakers. You won’t want to miss this!

That leads me to my next exciting update: North Metro Church University is undergoing some exciting updates. In NMCU, you’ve heard us say that the word of God is our filter for evaluating the world and making decisions accordingly. The Word of God, the 66 books of the Bible, is the primary source for followers of Jesus as we construct our biblical worldview. NMCU has had more participants than

we ever imagined! We refer to the first four semesters as NMCU Core (101-104). This past fall, we rolled out the beginning of our 200-level classes with 201 for core graduates to attend. To give core graduates flexible access to a variety of new and live teachings, we will pivot on how we deliver our 200-level modules, which we will refer to as NMCU Equip. In the following pages, I have a Q & A with Rebecca Ross, Curriculum Pastor, to tell us about this new module.

It’s an exciting time to be a part of North Metro Church!

Grateful for you,

Leadership Candidates

The North Metro Church fiscal year comes to a close on June 30, and during that time, our leadership teams begin interviewing and selecting new candidates for service.

The Council of Elders has carefully interviewed candidates to serve on the leadership team who have met the Biblical qualifications for leadership outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. At this time, we bring these prospective

candidates before the church for 30-days. During this period, any member(s) may show cause as to why these prospective leaders should not serve in leadership. In keeping with Matthew 18:15 and Matthew 5:24, any member with concerns must first express them directly to the individual and then to the Council of Elders (elders@northmetro.org). At the end of the 30-day period, the leaders will be confirmed in their new leadership role.

Candidates under consideration are: Elders

North Metro Church University Update

Rob: What kinds of changes can we expect to see in NMCU?

Rebecca: Well, first let me clarify that there will be no changes to the first four semesters of what we call NMCU Core which is comprised of NMCU 101 (Old Testament, Part 1), 102 (Old Testament, Part 2), 103, (New Testament, Part 1) and 104 (New Testament, Part 2). Once you complete all four semesters, you are considered an NMCU graduate. Changes are being made to the names of the course groupings and how graduates will access the upperlevel courses.

Rob: Tell us about the upcoming changes to the 200-level classes, and who can take those classes.

Rebecca: Well, previously our 200-level classes were going to be called 201, 202, and 203. So far, we have only released 201, which covers topics such as atonement theories, the Trinity, a history of the church creeds, and so much more. However, in an effort to give core graduates flexible access to a variety of new and live teachings, we will pivot on how we deliver our 200-level modules. Moving forward, we will call all modules after

NMCU Core, NMCU Equip. NMCU Equip will be a multi-subject curriculum for all of our core graduates.

Rob: Okay, so how does this work moving forward?

Rebecca: Nothing has changed for NMCU Core (101-104), and you will still sign up when ready to take the next class. But, moving forward, once you graduate from Core, you will no longer have to sign up for access to the NMCU Equip modules on Teachable. You’ll get automatic access to all NMCU Equip modules as soon as you graduate from Core. Yay for no more sign-ups!

Rob: NMCU isn’t broken and continues to thrive, so why make this change?

Rebecca: Great question! We want our graduates to have flexible access to new modules as soon as they become available. Many of our newer students have missed out on the live teachings. So, every time we launch a new NMCU Equip module, all graduates will be invited to participate in live teaching. Just as in modules from the past, we will record it on Sundays, 3:00-5:00pm,

Rob: When I dreamed up NMCU almost a decade ago, I hoped that our participants would learn to share the Way of Jesus and His Gospel with others so that we can make disciples that make disciples. So, I hear you saying that the only thing changing is that we are giving flexible access to our upperlevel courses.

Rebecca: That’s right! In summary, NMCU Equip is a multi-subject curriculum for all our core graduates. We hope these modules equip our graduates to learn, understand, and articulate Biblical truth so that they can form a Biblical worldview that applies to their lives, how they live in the world, and how they love others. We don’t want people waiting for the next semester of modules; we want them actively fulfilling the Great Commission to make disciples that make disciples.

GROUPS

At NMC, we genuinely believe we are better together. Therefore, we want everyone to circle up with others in a group. We have three different types of groups you can join. Connection Groups meet over shared interests such as hiking, board games, or movies; Community Groups meet for

fellowship, prayer, and study of the Bible; and Care Groups assist anyone walking through difficulty or life transition. If you want to join a Connection Group, Community Group, or Care Group, or start your own group, check out northmetro.org/groups.

TABLESETTERS

When we serve others, we set the table for them to experience the grace of God. That’s why, around here, we call our volunteers Tablesetters. Our goal is for everyone to experience the joy of serving others as a Tablesetter and serve somewhere within our church. Regardless of your schedule, experience, or gifting, there’s a fulfilling place for you to serve

here. Visit northmetro.org/serve to browse opportunities and take the next step to serve.

BAPTISMS

We offer classes for elementary-aged children, students, and adults once a quarter. After you have attended a class, one of our pastors will meet with you or your child.

If you’re ready to take this step in your faith journey, we invite you to sign up for a class at our Barrett Campus or meet with a pastor at the Sewell Mill Campus. For more information about our beliefs on baptism and to sign up for a class, visit northmetro.org/baptism.

Discipleship & Marriage

Wonder why you keep struggling with the same thing daily, year after year? You’re not alone. We all have struggles to overcome. Whether big or small, these destructive thoughts and habits hold us back from the life we want—and the life God calls us to live. Through His Word, God offers us principles where freedom and new life can be found. re:generation is for everyone, no matter who you are or what you are struggling with.

Change is possible! You can experience freedom and the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. Join us on any Wednesday at 7:00pm at the Barrett Campus. Learn more at northmetro.org/regeneration.

RE|ENGAGE

SEWELL MILL CAMPUS | SUNDAY, AUGUST 10 | 4:00PM

BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, AUGUST 11 | 7:00PM

re|engage is a marriage enrichment ministry designed for couples ready to invest time and energy into building a stronger marriage. Through a mix of largegroup teaching and small-group discussion, you and your spouse are challenged and

encouraged with practical ways to apply the gospel of Jesus to your marriage. Couples are discipled and equipped to grow in their walk with Christ and their marriages by studying and applying biblical principles within a small group structure. To learn more and sign up, visit the Events page at northmetro.org/events.

MERGE

BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 | 7:00PM

Strong, healthy marriages start long before the wedding. To build a marriage that lasts and gets off to a great start, we encourage all engaged couples to participate in Merge, our premarital discipleship class. Merge is an 8-week class and is available to those who regularly attend NMC and are engaged. To learn more, visit our Marriage page at northmetro.org/marriage.

MERGE 2.0

Have you previously been married, are in a new relationship, and are seriously considering marriage? In Merge 2.0, we have a specific curriculum to help you lay the foundation for a healthy second marriage. Through the workbook content and a mentor couple who has navigated the dynamics of a second marriage, Merge 2.0 will give you the tools to help

you decide if you’re ready and, if so, how to build a biblical union with each other. To learn more, visit our Marriage page at northmetro.org/marriage.

FOUNDATION

BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, AUGUST 11 | 7:00PM

The early years of marriage are filled with excitement—and a fair share of challenges. The Foundation classes are designed for couples who have been married for three years or less and offer a unique opportunity to lay the groundwork for a strong, Christcentered relationship that lasts a lifetime.

This fall, we’ll be walking through the book Marriage: 6 Gospel Commitments Every Couple Needs to Make by Paul David Tripp. This is a powerful resource that brings gospel-centered truth to the realities of married life.

The semester-based class meets eight times during the fall on Monday nights, and we hope you can join us for food, fellowship, and meaningful conversation. Together, we’ll explore biblical principles and practical tools to help you grow in unity and deepen your connection as a couple. To learn more or register, visit our Marriage page at northmetro.org/marriage.

Care

PRAYER

Prayer is powerful. It’s one of the most important things we can do as a church. Our staff and leadership would love to come alongside you, fight for you in whatever difficulty you may be experiencing, and celebrate any answered prayers. To share your prayer requests, visit northmetro.org/prayer.

HOME REPAIR ASSISTANCE

NMC has a faithful group of men looking to serve widows, single moms, and other ladies in our church. These men are skilled in most areas of basic home repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry; however, they are unable to take on major renovations or projects that require county permitting. If you are a single woman needing assistance with home maintenance or home repairs, visit northmetro.org/care to submit your request.

DIVORCE CARE

BARRETT CAMPUS | TUESDAY, AUGUST 19 | 6:30PM

Divorce Care is a mix of support and learning for those currently separated or divorced. We understand that divorce can be one of life’s most painful trials. While God hates divorce, He doesn’t hate divorced people. Our Divorce Care ministry is led by individuals who understand what you’re experiencing and will support you as you move forward. Through Divorce Care, you will learn how to deal with the heartache of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life. To sign up, visit the Events page at northmetro.org.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one care ministry that supports those experiencing

difficult times. Stephen Ministers are members of our NMC community who are well-trained in encouraging others enduring painful times, such as the loss of a loved one, a marriage, a job, or one’s health. If you are facing any of life’s difficult circumstances, please consider using a Stephen Minister to help bear your burdens.

FOSTER & ADOPTION SUPPORT

BARRETT CAMPUS | SUNDAY, AUGUST 24 | 11:00AM

Scripture urges believers to look after the orphans in our community. One way we do this at NMC is to come around families participating in foster care or adoption. In addition, this group is a place to find support and encouragement from others who understand these specific challenges. This group gathers on several occasions throughout the year with the hope of fostering fellowship for these special families. Visit the Care page to be connected with the group leaders.

INFERTILITY & LOSS SUPPORT

BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, JULY 14 | 7:00-9:00PM

When God calls our hearts to grow our families, He never promises it will be easy, but He does promise to lead when we are lost. Take refuge in knowing you’re not alone. If you struggle with infertility or have experienced miscarriage or infant loss, there’s a place for you.

WOMEN’S CANCER SUPPORT

Cancer hits with a terrible punch, whether it’s you, a spouse, parent, sibling, child, or friend. We can’t take you out of this storm, but we can walk alongside you and hold you up when the weight is too heavy. We can be that safe place to let all your feelings fall. We can have the honor of praying continually for you and your family. We can be that

safe group of ladies who get it without explanation or apologies; we get it all.

If cancer has affected you in any way, we encourage you to reach out to NMC’s Cancer Support Group leader, Diana Pethel, at 678.357.2933. This group will lead you to a faithful community of brave, strong women who have learned to trust God no matter what because He is trustworthy.

BEAUTY FOR ASHES SUPPORT GROUP

BARRETT CAMPUS | THURSDAYS, JULY 10 AND JULY 24 | 7:00-9:00PM

Beauty for Ashes is a confidential group designed to encourage and give hope to women whose husbands struggle with sexual addiction. We understand the devastation of a husband’s betrayal; however, our goal is not to stay in this place of wounding but to seek the Lord for healing and hope.

For more information or to sign up for any of our Care Ministries, visit our Care page at northmetro.org/care.

Change is possible! We all have struggles to overcome. Whether big or small, destructive habits with things like anxiety, alcohol, overspending, fear, sexual addiction, and a need for control hold us back from the life we want—and the life God calls us to live. God offers us principles through His Word where freedom and new life can be found. re:generation, a ministry at NMC, is for everyone, no matter who you are or what you are struggling with. Along with following a curriculum, participants will walk with a mentor throughout the program. Owen Adair, one of NMC’s family members, has served as a re:generation mentor twice. Read below to hear how God touches both mentors and mentees in re:generation.

Me? A mentor??!? Ha! That was my reaction when I was asked last year to be re:generation (re:gen) mentor. What do I know? Why ask me?

I have not been through re:gen yet, but I am always willing to help out when needed, so I prayed about the opportunity and investigated what the requirements were.

Let me provide a little background, so you know where my head was at. I was raised as a believer, acknowledged Christ as my Lord and Savior at 10, and was always in church, even if my “training” was pretty surface-level. I loved the Lord, and was always searching for His will - but it wasn’t until my 20s that I began to understand what it meant to have a real relationship with the Lord. The Lord was very patient with me and my spiritual fumblings…I rarely felt I had anything to offer to guide others. But early on, it was clear to me what a gracious God we serve! And I wanted to serve Him as best I could.

I love the verses in Matthew where the Pharisees were questioning Jesus - trying to trap him:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” — Matthew 22:36-40 NIV

In today’s language we say: “Love God, Love people”. I believe Jesus set a crucial standard for us here. I am an extrovert, and like being around people. But like most of us, this isn’t always the case for me. I believe Jesus’ command supersedes my personal preferences with whom I spend time, so I work hard to see the image of God in everyone. This makes a positive

change in how I approach people! I’m relying on God’s grace here - I am sure the scorecard of my failures isn’t pretty. But meeting that standard is important to me. I want to show up for whatever God has for me each day, and that means being open to His guidance.

So I said ‘yes’ to being a re:gen mentor, hoping God would fill in the blanks for me. The NMC re:gen sta ff and volunteers were great with communication and offering resources. They pointed me to videos, literature, and other material to answer questions I had about the mechanics of the mentor role. I served last year as a mentor, and was asked again this year to fill that role for someone else going through the program. The mentor work is not timeconsuming - it requires zero prep work outside of prayer! It’s not uncomfortable, since ideally, the mentor already knows the participant. As God always does, I found myself benefiting from the sessions just as my mentees did too.

As I prayed for my re:gen participant, and had discussions with them about their work in the program, it prompted me to inspect my life as well. It is nearly impossible to discuss an experience with someone without thinking about your own experiences. Allowing God to work in your own life is an amazing benefit of sharing with someone. This scripture cuts both ways: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 NIV

My experience as a re:gen mentor has been very positive, and I get to watch life transformation by the Holy Spirit happen in real time, for both the participant and myself! I encourage everyone to consider re:gen, and if asked to be a mentor, consider saying yes. I know God will bless you as much as He has blessed me.

Blessings to you! Owen Adair

re:generation meets on Wednesdays at 7:00pm at the Barrett Campus. Join us on Wednesdays in the Theater! Visit northmetro.org/regeneration to learn more.

NMCU EQUIP (FOR NMCU CORE GRADUATES ONLY) BRAND NEW!!!! ON-DEMAND

This class is solely for Core Graduates (students who have completed 101-104). Having established a foundation of the Bible, we will discuss matters of internal life and how, through a biblical perspective and worldview, we address and respond to them. Some of our Core graduates have already taken 201, which covered topics such as atonement theories, the Trinity, a history of the church creeds, and much more.

We will continue to offer these modules to equip our Core graduates to learn, understand, and articulate biblical truth, so that they can form a biblical worldview that applies to their lives, how they live in the world, and how they love others. To provide Core graduates with flexible access to a variety of new and live teachings, we will adjust our approach to delivering our modules, previously known as 201 and 202. You’ll get automatic access as soon as you graduate from Core. Yay for no more sign-ups!

We are launching five new weeks of material this fall. Check your email for the upcoming invitation to sign up for the live teaching on Sundays (September 14, 21, 28, and October 5 and 12) at the Barrett campus, from 3:00-5:00pm. This program is designed for students who wish to gain a deeper understanding of and experience the inner workings of the local church, to learn more about vocational ministry. It’s designed to make them more aware of their character, competency, strengths, and weaknesses while increasing their understanding of the disciple-making process. In addition, they will have the opportunity to explore the various ministries behind the scenes and understand what is required to make each ministry function and thrive. If you’re interested in applying for the 2025-2026 school year, check out northmetro.org/intern-program or email Rebecca Ross at rross@northmetro.org for more details. We only have two spots left!

Our Staff is Growing!

In God’s kindness and faithfulness, NMC continues to grow—and with that growth comes the opportunity to expand our staff team to support all that God is doing here. We’re excited to welcome several new staff members to the NMC family! If you see them around campus, be sure to say hello!

As we near the end of 2025, we are praying our guts out and are entirely dependent on the Lord! He has entrusted us with our vision to “Be Missed,” and our mission, “We Help People Find and Follow Jesus.” To live that out, we have set three God-sized goals to aim for as a church.

We currently support seven church plants, including Take Hold in Scotland; Grace Auburn in Auburn, Alabama; Creekside in Dallas, Georgia; Deeper Church in Dallas, Georgia; Heirloom Church in Kyle, Texas; Oaks Community Church in Naples, Florida; and Compassion International in Guatemala.

We’re telling our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers about our great God, who loves us immeasurably more than we can imagine. We want to celebrate with you if you’ve played a part in helping someone move from death to life or if you came to faith in Christ! Before Jesus left the disciples, He said, “Go make disciples.” A tangible way to see that hope realized is through our discipleship program, NMCU. We’re looking to see 1,000 people faithfully following Jesus, equipped with knowledge of Scripture, to share their beliefs with others ultimately. NMCU creates disciples that make disciples.

Church plants are an expression of our multiplication strategy, multiplying the mission to help people find and follow Jesus.
