HELP REDUCE STUDENT LOAN DEBT AWARD PROGRAM PROVIDES NEEDED BRIDGE One of the biggest hurdles facing today’s college students is the high expense and associated student loan debt. Mines does all it can to keep tuition low and comparable to other state schools, including more than $56 million in annual financial assistance, but among the 55 percent of students who graduate with debt, they owe an average of $30,000. Programs like the President’s Bridge Award seek to reduce the financial burden for graduating Mines students and their families. While Mines graduates continually earn some of the highest starting salaries in the country, supporting them as they start their careers with less debt can help both with recruitment and retention, ensuring their access to a great Mines education. Your support can help remove a financial barrier for qualified students.
HOW IT WORKS The President’s Bridge Award is a need-based program for qualified, out-of-state students who show a strong likelihood of accumulating student debt in excess of $20,000 or more. As an incentive to successfully complete their degree, a student’s financial award will increase each year as they near graduation. Bridge Scholars will have access to mentors and enhanced experiential learning opportunities. The students will be part of a community with the intent to lift each other up, develop activities and help guide the larger community of scholars. They will be expected to return the generosity from which they have benefited when they become more financially able, creating an enduring philanthropic cycle.
