2022 marked a transformational year for our organization. This year, we announced a new brand identity, including a new name, logo, homesite, and tech platform. In 2014, we started as 'AsylumConnect', a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization providing the world's first technology resource platform designed for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers. Our organization is founded on the belief that every LGBTQ+ person deserves the safety and freedom to live authentically.
In May 2022, AsylumConnect officially became InReach. Since launching our App in 2016, we have seen our tech platform be used by a wide variety of LGBTQ+ people, in addition to those seeking asylum. We rebranded to InReach to better communicate and reflect the value of our free technology to a broader LGBTQ+ user base.
Today, InReach is a trans-led tech nonprofit increasing access to safe, verified resources for the diverse LGBTQ+ community. InReach’s free technology instantly matches LGBTQ+ people facing discrimination and persecution with affirming, independently verified medical and mental health care, immigration and other legal help, safe housing, food, education and employment, translation, community and spiritual support, and more critical services. InReach aims to serve as a digital one-stop-shop for the intersectional LGBTQ+ community. InReach has verified services for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, refugees and other immigrants, LGBTQ+ Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, the transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) community, LGBTQ+ youth and their caregivers, and more LGBTQ+ communities.

InReach’s launch comes at a critical time for the LGBTQ+ community in the U.S. In 2022, over 170 anti-trans bills and over 300 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced in state legislatures across the country. In this hostile legislative climate, we saw an increased demand for safe resources among the diverse LGBTQ+ community. Over 50 percent (250,000+) of InReach’s user sessions occurred in 2022. Additionally, this year, all 50 U.S. states and D.C. had verified services listed and active users seeking affirming services on InReach.
Thank you in advance for your continued generosity and support.
Sincerely,
Jamie Sgarro Jamie Sgarro Co-Founder & Executive Director, InReach

Heading into 2023, we plan to build on this momentum to ensure every trans and queer person has access to the safe resources they need to thrive. We hope you will join us in this vision.
The free InReach App is the world's first tech platform matching LGBTQ+ people facing discrimination and persecution with safe, verified resources.

Already in 2023, there are more than 200 active bills targeting LGBTQ+ rights in the U.S. The majority continue to target the trans community. Amidst this current hostile climate facing the LGBTQ+ community, InReach will launch a redesigned version of the free InReach App.

INREACH ANNUAL REPORT 2022

At InReach, we recognize that preserving online anonymity is a life-or-death issue for many LGBTQ+ people. That's why the free InReach App (our web app, native iOS app, and native Android app) is designed to prioritize protecting users' safety and confidentiality online. As a result, we do not require users to share any personal information.

That being said, in late 2022, we introduced the option for users who choose to create a free InReach user account to share demographic information via an online survey.
