Householder Group #1 Investment Tip – Start With Education “LISTENING TO OUR CLIENTS’ OBJECTIVES AND DREAMS IS PARAMOUNT. EDUCATING THEM ON THEIR OPTIONS AND PROTECTING THEIR FINANCIAL HOUSE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME IS OUR ULTIMATE GOAL.” DAVID R. CICHON, M.ED,

Householder Group, led by David R. Cichon and his daughter, Practice Manager Stephanie Cichon-Bruno, is a father-daughter team committed to creating a warm, reliable and clientcentric environment. “We are dedicated to provide the same level of high-touch service, regardless of the size of someone’s assets. If your money is important to you, it’s important to us,” says Cichon.

espite an overabundance of financial information available in the media, longtime investors often find themselves owning products and investments that may no longer serve them well. At the same time, important considerations have fallen through the cracks. Overwhelmed with information, many new investors simply stick their heads in the sand. “Education is the great equalizer for veteran and novice investors alike,” says David R. Cichon, M.Ed, Certified Estate Planner, RFC. Cichon is the regional vice president of Householder Group offices in Colorado, specializing in estate and retirement planning. “Our company’s mission is to help people make smarter choices about their finances, so education, not revenue, is our top priority,” says Cichon, an Investment Advisory Representative (IAR). It’s About More Than Money New clients are often surprised when Cichon turns the conversation away from the financial data. He wants to know what matters most in their lives. While he would be the first to admit he doesn’t have a crystal ball to predict the market, he knows what the future holds for most clients. Children will need college money. Major purchases will be made. Aging parents will need care. Retirement is coming.

“Mr. Cichon looks forward to the future,” said a recent caller to a radio show featuring Cichon. “Other advisors are looking through the rearview mirror.” Listening intently, Cichon invests a generous amount of time and efforts in the entire process from discovery to final decision making. Continuing educational events and regular communication with Cichon keep his clients updated and confident in their retirement and estate plans. IARs like Cichon have fiduciary responsibility. That is, they are legally bound to put clients’ well being first. This is the standard at Householder Group. Clients also benefit from Cichon’s comprehensive approach to financial plans which includes advanced tax planning. It’s not a stand-alone component or an afterthought. Clients have the advantage of working directly with a professional who stays abreast of the rapidly changing tax code and regulatory environment…including underutilized tax strategies missed by advisors without this expertise.

A Principled Approach to Retirement Planning “BY MINIMIZING RISK, WE CAN DEVELOP A PLAN THAT NOT ONLY ALLOWS CLIENTS TO RETIRE, BUT TO STAY RETIRED BECAUSE WE’VE ENSURED THEIR RETIREMENT INCOME CAN LAST FOR LIFE.” From left: Jason Weckel, Kari Beers, Joshua Richards, Janie Allamon, Robert Allamon, Colin Richards

hen helping their clients prepare for retirement, Lord and Richards, Inc. founder Colin Richards and his team take a principled approach. “Our goal is to help our clients become more financially independent and better able to cope with the changing world around them from a Biblical point of view,” Colin says. “That means making sure we hold ourselves and our advice to the highest ethical standards and operate based on the timeless principles the Bible contains about money.” “First and foremost, we act in each client’s best interest and go through a comprehensive planning process to create a financial independence road map. “Regardless of age, many of our clients come to us with a lot of fear and anxiety surrounding the financial safety of their retirement plan,” Colin adds. “That’s why we start by taking an in-depth look at risk exposure. “By minimizing risk, we can develop a plan that not only allows clients to retire, but to stay retired because we’ve ensured their retirement income can last for life.” To avoid the possibility of losing retirement income just because the market goes down, Colin and his team apply a historical stress test to each client’s portfolio using 70 individual markers to check for strength of performance and security. “We look at a client’s plan and see how it would have done during any period in the past when the market was volatile. Take the year 2008, for example. When we’re looking at a client’s retirement strategy, we want to make sure it could have survived the same factors present in 2008.”

Going to that level to minimize risk isn’t something most advisors do; statistically, less than 10% perform the same level of indepth planning. It is not, however, the only aspect of client service that sets Lord and Richards apart. “One of the critical aspects of retirement planning now involves looking at long-term care,” Colin explains. “Unfortunately, it’s something that often gets overlooked.” Bankruptcy is all too common during retirement and long-term care is the number one reason why. That’s why Colin and his team take an asset-based approach to create a steady cash flow to fund long-term care and protect retirement income. “No one wants to see all their hard-earned money go to a nursing home. Or taxes,” Colin says. “We help our clients maximize their retirement income so they can leave a legacy to their families or a charitable organization.” Helping make the most of their retirement by taking a principled approach to every aspect of the financial plan — it’s not just the right way to do things. It’s the way Lord and Richards, Inc. helps each client they serve.

Accelerated Wealth, LLC

Human Nature is Possibly the Most Overlooked Component of Retirement Planning “WE ARE VERY INTENTIONAL IN OUR SEARCH FOR ADVISORS WHO SHARE OUR COMMITMENT TO RAISE THE BAR IN THE VALUE THEY CAN BRING INTO THEIR COMMUNITIES.”

F

amilies often swap the anxieties about retirement savings for the gut-wrenching reality they might eventually run out of money. “Even families with significant assets experience these feelings which can lead to a lower quality of life, or panicdriven investment decisions,” say Bill Walton and Chris Abeyta of Accelerated Wealth Advisors, LLC, an SEC-Registered Investment Advisor (RIA). Walton and Abeyta founded Accelerated Wealth® in Colorado Springs in 2008 with a fresh approach to retirement planning. In addition to calculating measurable factors such as inflation, taxes, risk exposure and time horizons, these thought leaders also address the investing wildcard – human nature. “Most financial advisors are trained only on industry specific information, such as financial products and retirement specific tax strategy,” explains Justin Ross, President of Accelerated Wealth, LLC. Accelerated Wealth also focuses on the behavioral and psychological aspects that should go into the financial planning process such as personality preference and emotional intelligence. “Our advisors are able to equip and prepare their clients in ways that most competitors cannot,” says Ross. Investing with a Purpose “When investors panic, they are prone to make bad investments. Even small mistakes made near retirement or shortly thereafter can dramatically erode principal and reduce cash flow in the out-years. Retirement savings get no second chances,” explains Walton, who serves as CEO.

“While investors are building assets, advisors typically focus on diverse asset allocations. For retirees, we look at diversity differently. We advise dividing monies into separate categories to accomplish different purposes,” says Abeyta. “We unscramble the nest egg.” Rather than a single portfolio of investments, they recommend dedicating money to five separate “baskets:” income; investments; cash reserves; long term care and, finally, legacy. If the stock market experiences a huge loss, as it did in 2008, investors will feel less of the volatility because their income stream will not be effected and long-term care coverage is still in place. Hands-on Management Results in Better Performance The key to Accelerated Wealth’s planning philosophy is flexibility. “We use an Adaptive Distribution Planning approach,” explains CIO Gregg Indovina. “The margin for error in retirement income portfolios is small because even a small loss can have a significant long-term negative effect on a retiree’s lifestyle. We manage this risk by adapting our asset allocation based on market conditions and making adjustments to the amount and timing of distributions, along with using different asset classes that are not all correlated to the market when it is going down.” The Accelerated Wealth philosophy attracts a strong following. From its original office in Colorado Springs, the firm has expanded to 14 offices in seven states in just nine years. “Every demographic our team advises has very unique obstacles,” adds Walton.

Let’s face it. You can buy investments anywhere. So why hire a Trilogy advisor? With our DecisionCoach process, we can help you get clarity on your highest priorities and then organize a decision plan to carve your path to financial success. It’s never just about the investments. It’s about YOU the investor. At Trilogy, it’s personal.

Every financial planning prospect comes to us with two competing storylines: 1. The one they think they are living. 2. The one their money is actually living. At Trilogy Financial, our goal is to improve the financial decision making process of our clients. This requires us to manage the intersection between our clients’ intentions and their financial actions. At the end of the day, this work is not about us, it’s not about Trilogy Financial.
