West Chester University Wells School of Music proudly presents...
WCU Opera Theater in collaboration with Uptown Entertainment Alliance: Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors"; Emily Bullock & Heidi Starr, directors
This opera was also commissioned by NBC and was first performed, live on television, by the NBC Opera Theatre on December 24, 1951. It was the first opera specifically written for television. It tells the story of a disabled boy (who can only walk with a crutch) and his mother. His mother is afraid her son will have to become a beggar because they have nothing. Later that evening they are visited by the three kings on their way to find the Christ child. Amahl’s display of unselfishness causes a miracle to occur.
