Grand Chorus
I Will Sing with the Spirit
Text: 1 Corinthians 14:15
I will sing with the spirit: Alleluia. And I will sing with the understanding also: Alleluia.
Canto d’addio dell’augello migrante
Text: Giovanni Pascoli
Once upon a time, the blooming forest was beautiful, and now the sky is colorless! The lovely summer has now passed, and I carry the happy ones with me. We ran with happy flight from the thick shadows to the blooming meadow, and, drinking in the sun, we sang the most gentle song of love. And now we must migrate from here, abandon our sweet nests, fly down there, where we no longer have a homeland. Alas!
Music, Spread Thy Voice Around
Text: Moses Mendes, attr.
Music, spread thy voice around; sweetly flow the lulling sound.
The Last Words of David
Text : 2 Samuel 23:3 –4
He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be as a light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain. Hallelujah. Amen.
The Long Day Closes
Text : H. F. Chorley
No star is o'er the lake, its pale watch keeping; The moon is half awake, through grey mist creeping. The last red leaves fall round the porch of roses, The clock hath ceased to sound, The long day closes.
Sit by the silent hearth in calm endeavour,
To count the sounds of mirth, Now dumb for ever.
Heed not how hope believes And fate disposes:
Shadow is round the eaves, The long day closes.
The lighted windows dim are fading slowly.
The fire that was so trim now quivers lowly. Go to the dreamless bed
Where grief reposes; Thy book of toil is read, The long day closes.
Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal
Text : F. R. Warren
Hark, I hear the harps eternal ringing on the farther shore, As I near those swollen waters with their deep and solemn roar. Hallelujah, praise the Lamb! Hallelujah, glory to the great I A m!
And my soul, tho’ stain’d with sorrow, fading as the light of day, Passes swiftly o’er those waters, to the city far away. Hallelujah, praise the Lamb! Hallelujah, glory to the great I A m!
Souls have cross’d before me, saintly, to that land of perfect rest; And I hear them singing faintly in the mansions of the blest. Hallelujah, praise the Lamb! Hallelujah, glory to the great I A m!
Love Never Leaves
Text : Marina Shimer
I hear you in the autumn wind, and summer's crashing rain. Your voice in someone else’s words, like mem`ry’s sweet refrain. Echoes of morning birdsong in the branches of the trees. I hear you in these moments, like a welcome melody. Love never leaves.
I see you in the falling snow and blooming flowers in spring. Your face in the radiant, gleaming stars and moon beams when I dream.
Water on sand dunes splashing when the tide rolls out to sea. I feel you in these moments, and I know you’re here with me. Love never leaves.
I can’t say that I’ve lost you because I listen for you still. And while there’s music in my life, I know I always will. Love never leaves. Never leave!
Ave Regina Caelorum
Text: Marian Antiphon
Hail, O Queen of Heaven. Hail, O Lady of Angels
Hail, thou root; hail, thou gate from whom unto the world a light has arisen Rejoice, O glorious Virgin, lovely beyond all others Farewell, most beautiful maiden, and pray for us to Christ.
A Dedication
Text: Emily Dickinson
If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain.
She Lingers On
Text: Zanaida Robles
She walks in pools of sadness. Her face is cool in moonlight. No-one can cover it. She walks in pools and moonlight. She lingers on.
Hope Lingers On
Text: Lissa Schneckenburger
My mother, when love is gone, in our darkest hour, hope lingers on. My father, when peace is gone, in our darkest hour, hope lingers on. I will not hate, and I will not fear; in our darkest hour, hope lingers here. My sister, when equality’s gone… My brother, with tolerance gone… My love, when honor is gone… My country, when justice is gone…
Sicut locutus est
Text: Luke 1:55
As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.
Gloria patri
Text: Traditional
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: World without end. Amen.
Brothers, Sing On!
Text: Herbert Dalmas
Come and let our swelling song mount like the whirling wind, As it meets our singing through, so blithe of heart and mind. Care and sorrow now be gone. Brothers in song, sing on!
Youth is a wand’ring troubadour, sailing the singing breeze, Wooing a maid on a distant shore, over the tossing seas. Steering by the stars above, his vessel a song of love. Brothers, sing on!
Errant minstrels, thus we greet you. List to our voices strong! With glad and open hearts we meet you in our festival of song. Care and sorrow now be gone. Brothers in song, sing on!
Lasst Lautenspiel und Becherklang
Text: Friedrich Rückert
The lutes shall play and chalices be ringing as long as we are young and we revel . The times to come will give little inspiration to sing .
Der träumende See
Text: Julius Mosen
The lake [is at rest] deep in a blue dream covered by water lilies; You, little bird high in the [spruce tree], Don't wake the sleeper!
But the reeds quietly blow and balance their tops with easy sense; but a blue moth flies over them, alone, towards them.
Let All the World in Ev’ry Corner Sing
Text: George Herbert
Let all the world in ev'ry corner sing, My God and King.
The heav'ns are not too high, His praise may thither flie: The earth is not too low, His praises there may grow. Let all the world in ev'ry corner sing, My God and King.
The church with psalms must shout, No doore can keep them out: But above all, the heart
Must bear the longest part.
Let all the world in ev'ry corner sing, My God and King.
He Never Failed Me Yet
Text: Robert Ray
I will sing of God's mercy every day, every hour he gives me power. I will sing and give thanks to thee for all the dangers, toils and snares that he has brought me out. He is my God and I'll serve him no matter what the test. Trust and never doubt; Jesus will surely bring you out. He never failed me yet.
I know God is able to deliver in times of storm, and I know that he'll keep you safe from all earthly harm. One day when my weary soul is at rest, I'm going home to be forever blessed. Trust and never doubt; Jesus will surely bring you out. He never failed me yet.
Didn't my God deliver Moses from King Pharaoh? And didn't he cool the fiery furnace for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego?
When I think of what my God can do, he delivered Daniel, I know he will deliver you. Trust and never doubt; Jesus will surely bring you out. He never failed me yet.
Her beacon -hand beckons
Text: Emma Lazarus
Her beacon -hand beckons: give give to me those yearning to breathe free tempest-tossed they cannot see what lies beyond the olive tree whose branch was lost amid the pleas for mercy, give to me your tired fighters fleeing
flying from let them i will be your refuge i will be we will be we will
Tchaka
Text: Gabriel T. Guillaume
Turn up the fire! We are going to eat tchaka! Turn up the fire; stir up the corn . Don’t forget the salt pork We are going to eat a delicious tchaka. We are going to cook up a mind -blowing stew.
At the sound of the three drums, everyone yells out hurray. If we join together we can all move forward. Let us enmesh in lovely harmony a delicious homemade stew, a musical tchaka. It’s a delicious homemade stew, a national tchaka, A delicious homemade stew… Turn up the fire!
Yanvalou, Kontredans, Rabòday are amazing. Roots music, oh yes, that’s good stuff. Let’s stick together; side by side we can move forward. Turn up the fire! The tchaka is cooking!
Ibo, Bolero, Banda, Mayi, Congo, Petro, Maskaron… These are the rhythms of our roots. We danced Kalinda and we sang Rabòday Heads together, with love, let us do great things. Turn up the fire!
We proclaimed hope and we sang of peace, so that the light of justice spreads throughout the earth. We’ll keep on singing… We’ll keep on singing to make life more beautiful! In justice and in love, let’s eat a delicious tchaka! Amen! Let’s eat a delicious tchaka!
