ABOUT THE ARTIST

Liam Turnage, keys, drums

Liam Turnage is a composer and producer based in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Starting from scratch, he incorporates different genres and styles to create an impactful cinematic experience for his listeners. In particular, Liam enjoys writing music for video games, soundtracks, ambience, and live performances. To enhance his writing, Liam creates his own sample libraries with unique sounds for his projects.

Liam’s musical journey began as a toddler. After picking up drumsticks for the first time, he developed a natural rhythm using his father’s electric drum set. He played in Preschool and his family band where he developed a love for rock music. As he grew, Liam discovered Garageband and began composing, recording, and producing songs for his peers. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Liam composed and produced his first video game mod soundtrack, Age of Empires III: Wars of Liberty. . While crafting his music scores as a freelance video game composer, his musical taste was enriched and his interest sparked to score for film.

Currently, Liam attends West Chester University and will be attaining the Music Studio Composition degree in May of 2026. During his time at the university, Liam was selected to participate in two undergraduate research projects: Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) and Student Undergraduate Research Foundation (SURF). His research was focused on developing sample libraries to build Virtual Studio Technology instruments. Upon graduation, Liam will be launching his sample company Samplee with his fiancée. Focusing on ambient and live music, Liam has collaborated with peers, professors, and institutions in the West Chester and Philadelphia area. Aside from his composing and studies, Liam is the drummer in a local cover band Last Minute Changes. Liam’s experience in drumming, production, and scoring has made him a versatile composer who is always willing to share his love and passion for the cinematic music he loves to create.

Modulation (2024)

Modulation was derived from Adjustments-a concept album from a collaboration with Chloe Hébert. This was one of Liam’s first collaborations with Chloe. Adjustments was constructed to educate listeners on different elements of music production in a series of creative ambient pieces. Unlike traditional ambient pieces, Modulation features layers of modulated effects (chorus, flanger, reverb, phaser, etc.) to the instruments. All of the effects produce a distinct timbre that complements the acoustic instruments being performed.

Eternal Earth (2024)

Eternal Earth was written to provide an ambient EP for the Employee Appreciation Event at West Chester University’s Science Center. The piece was crafted from a single note sustained by a synth. The note’s audio was elongated to create an ambient drone throughout the piece. The intention for Eternal Earth is for reflection: to look back at a frozen and detailed memory in time. Imagining yourself standing in this tangible moment, this piece is to advocate for simplicity and peace as one gazes back at “the good old days”.

Infinite (2025)

Infinite (similar to Eternal Earth) is focused on sound and timbre rather than structure. Although this piece does not have a constant drone, there is movement within the texture as instruments enter and exit throughout the piece. As an aspiring Film Composer, Liam seeks to create a cinematic atmosphere that inspires the audience. Incorporating the features of solo instruments, he hopes to enlighten the audience on the different ways instruments interact and unify in the music.

Reverberation (2024)

Reverberation focuses on the element of reverb. With the intense use of extensive reverb and echo, the drone provokes an emotional response to the listener. Using only a single sound source with added reverb, the result is a natural increase in speed as the song progresses with the addition of layers. [Reverberation is also from the album Adjustments.]

Let There Be Light (2026)

Have you felt a longing for unity and connection? Let There Be Light is Liam’s newest addition to his compositions. Although newly introduced to songwriting, his piece is richly crafted in its lyrics, melody, harmony, and instrumentation to tell personal stories of growth and life experiences. This piece aims to guide listeners to the hope, grace, and (as the title suggests) light in the darkness: Jesus Christ. After a time of searching for identity and purpose, Liam struggled with the importance of the eternal versus the fleeting pleasures (vanity) of today. At the lowest point in his life, he sought for truth and purpose. It was after he discovered Jesus’ character and heart that he began to witness how Jesus’ sacrificial love impacted all of us. In Let There Be Light, Liam seeks to remind listeners that their value does not come from their works or achievements. Following Jesus allowed Liam to realize we are “fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God”. There was no more searching for a false identity or purpose, but true fulfillment of the Lord. When asked about his pursuit of Jesus, Liam responded “Because of Him, I have found that light that everyone has been searching for, whether they realize it or not. This song portrays the struggle and discovery of finding Jesus and an opportunity to share that light with others, like you!”

You’re in your head, stuck in your bed,

In a bubble of your own attraction.

Waiting for yourself to wake with no one close,

Are you satisfied?

I’m standing here,

Chasing around the wind and rain.

Where do I stay?

Look through your eyes and see your pain.

Comfortable pain,

Is there any way out of my-

Comfortable shame.

Confess my sins and be erased.

There is something more that I can’t see,

More than what to give to be heard and seen,

Something you can’t do, but someone you can love,

Waiting to see the other side.

Let go the fear of being reproached,

You have a heart and soul, you have so much worth,

Give it to The One who sets you free,

You’ll find The One who spoke, let there be light!

I am ready to exchange the weight and gain

I give it up, I lay down all of it for You.

You’ve worked so hard, your own regard

Waiting to see if it was enough

The transience grows, the one you chose

Are you out of time?

I’m standing here,

Chasing around the wind and rain.

Where do I stay?

Look through your eyes and see your pain.

Comfortable pain,

Is there any way out of my-

Comfortable shame.

Confess my sins and be erased.

There is something more that I can’t see,

More than what to give to be heard and seen,

Something you can’t do, but someone you can love,

Waiting to see the other side.

Let go the fear of being reproached,

You have a heart and soul, you have so much worth,

Give it to The One who sets you free,

You’ll find The One who spoke, let there be light!

I would like to thank all of my family and friends for their support and encouragement throughout my years at West Chester University.

Family:

I want to thank my parents Katie and Charles Turnage for always being my number one supporters in following my passion and giving me the ability to do what I love. I love you guys so much! Thank you, Mom, for helping me through my schooling and growing me into the “music man” I always wanted to be when I grew up. Even when things got difficult living in a house with five kids and five dogs, you always persevered and always wanted to ensure everyone’s happiness. You have done so much for all of us and in case you don’t hear it enough, thank you for everything. Thank you too, Dad, for all of the times you sat me down on our old electric drum set and let me play along to your Oasis and Kasabian CD’s. I never would have discovered the passion and love for drumming if it wasn't for your support (since I could pick up the drumsticks). Thank you for sharing your musical passion with me in spending all those years jamming out with me. Even as I start a new chapter in my life in adulthood, I’ll always be down to do another jam with you. Alongside my parents, I would like to thank my siblings Claire, Kylie, Lane, and Dylan for cheering me on this wild adventure and always having my back on pursuing music. Last but not least, thank you Grandy for always wanting to hear about my projects and work. I appreciate every day I get to talk to you about it.

Friends:

Thank you to all of my friends and fellow “Swablins” for sticking by me all these years. My time at West Chester would not have been as adventurous and “masterful” without all of you. Whether it was grinding out our Music History homework at the last minute, or going out of our caves to get lunch at the foodtrucks, you have supported me in ways I never saw before and gave me confidence to continue pursuing my calling. I will surely miss those random moments in time where we could have a good laugh and be social. Even as we move on and go our own separate ways, I will treasure all the times I have spent with you and recall them next time I go by the Sabatino’s truck. Special thanks to Jude Heath a.k.a the Master, Dustin Siebenaler, and Ty Singleton for helping me put this performance together and being my wingmen throughout this journey. Additional thanks to Austin, Bubba, Connor, Joel, and Valeriy, for all being cool. :)

Professors:

Thank you to all of the faculty here at West Chester for giving us the opportunity and resources to do what we love to do. It's becoming increasingly uncommon to see a thriving music program and community. I am grateful to receive an education, professional support, and perform music of all types. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Devin Arne who has taught me so much to improve my craft as a music composer and individual. He has supported me since day one on my endeavors, seeing the potential in my growth as a musician and person (even when I didn’t). I also would like to thank Dr. Robert Maggio for also supporting me since the first composition class I took with him. Even in my silliest assignments, he also saw potential in me and always encouraged me to think outside the box. I will continue to do so, music related or not!

Fiancée:

A very special thank you to someone very special to me. Thank you, Chloe, for always being by my side through the good, bad, and ugly. I thank you for standing by me through all the different seasons I went through and continued to speak life into me. You have been a wonderful helpmate to me and have encouraged me to keep pursuing what I love to do. More importantly, thank you for reminding me that my value is not in what I do, but in Who’s I am: Christ. I am excited to move into a new season with you and pursue a God-loving marriage one day. I love you! :)
