The Themes for this Term

June: LGBTQIA+ Health Awareness July: UV Awareness

The LGBTQIA+ community face health disparities due to their sexual orientation.

Did you know that 40% of homeless youth are members of this community?

Our goals for nursing practice include creating an environment of inclusivity, fostering affirming encounters, and practicing cultural humility

UV emits three types of radiation: UVA, UVB, and UVC

UVA & UVB are linked to skin cancer

Can cause damage to the skin in as little as 15 minutes

Approximately 87,110 new cases of invasive melanoma annually

Approximately 9,730 deaths annually Wear sunscreen, long sleeves, hats, etc

OTHER NEWS

We had the privilege of giving a tour to the California State Senator Caroline Menjivar. She oversees everything in the Sun Valley community and wants to ensure opportunities are provided for our nursing students. She asked us various questions concerning financial aid, classes, & the education we are receiving to confirm we have the competency of becoming a Registered Nurse. She asked about the values of WCU and why we chose this university over other Universitites.
