NSNA Annual Convention, Nashville, TN

On April 12th, 2023, the WCTC Nursing Club made history attending the first ever annual convention of the National Student Nurse Association in Nashville, TN. In total, 11 students across all levels attended with club faculty Cassie Prohaska and Amber Gonzalez Grant. Students left the conference with new friendships, broadened horizons, and an invigorated passion for nursing. Check out the video re-cap here. Thank you, Holly Knight for creating this awesome video!

Here's what students had to say:

"I learned so many different avenues to nursing and how broad it truly is and that the sky is the limit. We had amazing keynote speakers, along with getting to know other students from other schools around the country and how we are all very diverse and unique in our own way."

-Holly Knight, level 2.

"Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity. I gained a lot of inspiration from this conference, and it allowed me to realize that I am so close to being done and so close to being able to really put some of these lessons and inspiration into play and make real changes for my patients."

STUDENT & FACULTY PORTRAITS FROM NSNA NATIONAL CONVENTION

HOW WAS THE CONFERENCE?

"Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity. I gained a lot of inspiration from this conference, and it allowed me to realize that I am so close to being done and so close to being able to really put some of these lessons and inspiration into play and make real changes for my patients " Jordan Anderson, Level 4

"I just want to say how awesome the conference was and that I learned quite a bit

The biggest takeaway for me was that nurses suffer from discrimination along with the patients that we see Several of the speakers from the “Different Minds Different Perspectives Different Partners” session have witnessed and experienced it and stressed that this new generation of nurses needs to be the ones to change this... We can be the change that healthcare and patients need!"- McKenzie Wyskochil, level 1

"A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate to attend a leadership conference in Milwaukee that was hosted by Aurora Medical Center – Sinai. About 50 student nurses and nurse leaders gathered for a night of listening to panelists discuss ways in how nurses can become better leaders in their workplaces and in the communities that they live in.

One panelist stated, “a title is just something that gives me a paycheck.” She went on to say that “people don’t care what you know until they know how much you care.” She taught our group that it was more important to establish a level of trust between the nurse and the patient and also between the nurses on the unit.

Staying curious, asking many questions, and actively listening are some of the ways that nurses can better educate themselves in the workplace. It is important to show up to work as your authentic self and to strive to represent someone, whether that be a patient, community member, or fellow nurse It will make you a more confident person and a better advocate for your patients." -Tate Stoeckmann, Level 1
