What’s Hot and Happening in 5th Grade!

Do you want to know what is happening in 5th grade? Well, then this is just for you. Mrs. JoJo was interviewed and shared loads of information. She feels that the emotions of the current 5th graders are happy and scared. Happy because they will be in middle school but scared because of the homework load and being the youngsters. Mrs. JoJo says the younger grades should look forward to 5th grade. Some things to look forward to while you are in elementary aspiring to be a 5th grader is “Hop-A-Pillow,” science labs, and the novels read in class. Hop-A-Pillow is a game where students sit in a circle passing a pillow around while JoJo sings the Hop-A-Pillow song.

It’s very much like Hot Potato! 5th grade is the grade to be in!

Meet Our New P.E. Coaches By: James Childers

All About Mrs. Simiril By: Leila Polo and Maya Solis

Can you believe it, 21 long years! That’s how long Mrs. Simiril from 4th grade has been teaching. Before she came to WCS, she taught at Ethel Koger Beckham K-8 Center. She loves educating and sharing her faith with her students. A fun fact about her is that her favorite food is chocolate chip cookies.

At WCS, we have two new elementary P.E. coaches for the 2023-24 school year. Here are some interesting facts about them. First, Coach Moon’s favorite sport is basketball. On the other hand, Coach Antawn’s favorite sport is football. Both P.E. coaches say that we have to keep our bodies healthy so that we can stay strong as we grow up. That means that you should eat more fruits and vegetables each day.

Plus, junk food could mess up your stomach as you get older. If you have one of these coaches for P.E. be grateful. Not every school has great coaches like these.

Listen to Your Parents: A Short Story

As you know, this year our theme is wholehearted, and our animal is the kangaroo. Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Brigham came up with our kangaroo theme and this is how. They were talking and thought about the fact that baby kangaroos feel WHOLE when they are in their mommy's pouch. Similar to baby kangaroos, we can begin to have a WHOLE heart when we allow the Holy Spirit to move in us. Their goal for this quarter in chapel is to make sure that everyone trusts in the Bible and knows our verse.

When we asked Mr. Bishop how he got his ideas for his interesting book, he said that the ideas came up randomly in his head. Also, sometimes things in his life inspired him. Mr. Bishop's favorite worship song is “Goodness of God.” This is his favorite song because it talks about the blessings of God and our Bible verse this year about being “wholehearted.”

You might be wondering about Noisy Offering, this quarter’s total amount is $2,388. The girls won this quarter, but not by much. You might not know what tithe means, but it means to give to the church. Mr. Bishop tithes at his church generously. He thinks it is important because most people forget that the blessings are through the giving, not through the receiving.

Today, I am so excited! I’m having a movie night with my friend, Marcelo.

My parents say I can only watch PG movies, but do I care? No! We are watching GoreZombie 5. It’s rated R! Ding! Dong! “He’s here,” I thought to myself. I rush to the door and open it. We turn on the TV. “It’s a good thing your mom and dad are not here,” says Marcelo. As soon as I searched up the movie, Marcelo and I shrieked and jumped back causing the couch to tip over and the movie to play. At the end of the night, we went to the tent in my backyard. As soon as we almost fell asleep, I jolted up screaming. I had just had a nightmare! Marcelo played a PG movie to get my mind off GoreZombie 5. Luckily, it worked!

Next time, I will listen to my parents when they tell me to stick to watching PG movies.

Animal Lovers

Oink! Oink! That noise was from the wonderful Nature Center! If you have not been there, you should make sure to check it out! The Nature Center holds a wide variety of 90 fascinating animals. One really interesting one is our new pig! He is a shy black pig with a short snout and a strange appetite. Before we had the pig, we had 2 cute goats named Sunshine and Shadow, who were sent to a farm to have goat babies! We miss them very much, and we hope to one day see their children at Westminster. The animals in the Nature Center create an amazing environment for the kids at our school.

Credit Cards are Best!

Cash is King!

Some elementary students think cash is better, but in my opinion credit cards are better. The first reason is because you can store more money on your credit cards than you can fit in your wallet or your pocket.

Another reason is that credit cards are not messy, and cash is. Cash is messier because there are multiple bills and coins, so it goes everywhere. A credit card is harder to lose because if it falls out of your wallet or pocket it makes a clattering sound, but bills don't make a noise. Credit cards are a faster way to pay. For example, if you go to the Snack Shack, all you must do is swipe and you are done, but for cash you must count bills and coins and it will take a long time so then the line of people saying “Count faster!” and then the line will get louder and longer.

In my opinion, it is better to use cash to pay in the Snack Shack for a few reasons. First, when the Snack Shack took cash- it was earning a lot of money because many more elementary students have cash.

Also, since many elementary students don’t know how to count money, the Snack Shack can give them the opportunity to learn by using cash. Overall, I think that cash is better.

I chose cash because most kids in elementary school do not have credit cards or phones, or any device made by Apple that you can pay with. It can help kids [learn to] count change.

I choose cash because many kids do not have credit card or Apple pay. It is not fair to littler kids and people without cards. I can see how it can be annoying for little kids that bring in 200 pennies, but the elementary kids used to take up a good portion of the sales at the café.

I would pick a credit card because my mom and dad do not always have cash.

Some kids don't have credit cards and it's easy for kids to bring cash instead.

A credit card is the better option because most people just carry it around and don't forget it.
