PHILANTHROPY FUELS THE COLLEGIATE spirit

Dear Spartans,

At Wichita Collegiate School, philanthropy is more than generosity. It is the quiet force behind the extraordinary. It brings to life the experiences that define our community, from beloved traditions to the deep learning that shapes who our students become.

Because of your support, our students thrive in innovative classrooms, on the stage and field, and in the moments that make Collegiate feel like home. From Picnic Buddy Day to Prom, from the Turkey Tango to the Senior Sendoff, your giving sustains the spirit and joy of these traditions.

Each tradition is an opportunity for students to connect, grow, and be inspired.

Collegiate does more than prepare students to succeed. It prepares them to lead with heart. Your generosity fuels more than programs. It nurtures a culture of curiosity, kindness, and courage. You are helping us grow not only scholars and athletes, but compassionate changemakers who are ready to make a difference in the world.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping to turn possibilities into lasting impact.

You make Collegiate not just great, but truly extraordinary.

With gratitude,

COLLEGIATE’S BUSINESS OFFICE LEADS WITH EXPERIENCE AND VISION

Wichita Collegiate School is proud to recognize the strength and dedication of its Business Office, which keeps our school running smoothly and responsibly, with a strong commitment to the mission and long-term health of the institution.

A successful fundraising program relies on strong accounting and operations, and we are grateful that Collegiate rests on a well-managed foundation our donors can trust. These systems support sound decision-making, long-range planning, and the responsible use of philanthropic gifts.

The team’s work is guided by a focus on what best serves our students, faculty, and families. Chief Operating Officer Brooke Carpenter helps ensure that operational priorities align with the school’s mission and coordinates the Fund for Collegiate allocation process alongside our Division Heads. She also works closely with Elaine Simmons to oversee human resources, ensuring best practices that support our most valuable asset: our incredible faculty and staff.

For 37 years, Kevin Reed ’77 has played a central role in Collegiate’s financial leadership. His deep institutional knowledge and steady hand have helped shape the strong financial position the school enjoys today. Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, Kevin will enter a new chapter

in his service to Collegiate, focusing on long-term financial modeling and preparing the school for a future capital campaign.

As part of a thoughtful succession plan, Whitney (Tangeman) Stevens ’08 now leads daily accounting operations in her role as Controller. She brings transparency, precision, and a strong sense of responsibility to the school’s financial processes. She is supported by longtime team members Grace Phillips and Shawna Horsch, who manage day-to-day accounting work with care and consistency.

This experienced team reflects Collegiate’s values of trust, collaboration, and excellence. Their efforts ensure that the school’s financial and operational foundation remains strong and steady, giving our community the confidence to dream big and invest boldly in an ambitious future.

2024 DAY OF GIVING

The WCS Day of Giving is the official kick-off to our annual fundraising effort, which raises money every year through donations to our unrestricted Fund for Collegiate. Spartans near and far–parents, alumni, grandparents, parents and grandparents of alumni, faculty, staff, and students–join together to celebrate and support the school we know and love.

On October 10, 2024, this year’s Day of Giving, $760,710 in UNRESTRICTED gifts were made, far surpassing our goal of $625,000! In addition to these unrestricted donations, $32,607 was raised in honor of Coach Clark Ensz. Donations to the Coach Ensz Effort funded our new WCS bus while also prioritizing support for our athletic teams, student health and wellness, and a plaque honoring our beloved Spartan coach.

RISING TO THE SPARTAN CHALLENGE

This past year, Debra & David Humphreys '75, along with Helen & Russ Meyer, invited our community to partner with them in raising the necessary funds for WCS to uphold its proud tradition of educational excellence. WCS RAINY DAY FUND

Made possible by our strong Fund for Collegiate

Every great school needs more than strong academics and a spirited community. It needs a strong foundation, both figuratively and literally.

That is why in 2023, after the amazing success of the Spartan Bash, we proudly launched our very first Rainy Day Fund, also known as PPRRSM.

WHAT IS PPRRSM?

PPRRSM stands for Provision for Plant Renewal, Replacement, and Special Maintenance.

This fund has been established to grow over time, so that in the future it can support major expenses that keep our campus operating smoothly, such as:

ƒ Roof repairs

ƒ HVAC system replacements

ƒ Technology and infrastructure upgrades

These expenses are part of every school's long-term reality, especially a school that is over 60 years old, like ours. By building a reserve, we are preparing responsibly and avoiding budget strain when these needs arise.

WHY IT MATTERS

ƒ Our buildings need regular care

ƒ Our tech needs timely updates

ƒ Emergencies happen

ƒ Planning ahead means peace of mind

OUR GOAL

OUR RAINY DAY FUND CAN GROW THROUGH TWO KEY SOURCES:

ƒ Restricted donations from generous supporters who understand how vital this fund is to our financial future

ƒ 20% of the unrestricted Fund for Collegiate is being invested directly into PPRRSM

We are committed to building this fund every year so that one day we can:

ƒ Avoid emergency fundraising

ƒ Protect the operating budget, which in turn safeguards tuition rates

ƒ Maintain a beautiful, safe, and functional campus

Introducing thank you!

PPRRSM

PROVISION FOR PLANT RENEWAL, REPLACEMENT, & SPECIAL MAINTENANCE

WHEN YOU SUPPORT THE UNRESTRICTED FUND FOR COLLEGIATE, YOU ARE SUPPORTING THE FINANCIAL FOUNDATION OF OUR SCHOOL, AND ENSURING THAT WE HAVE A BEAUTIFUL, SAFE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAMPUS.

SAFE & SOUND: DONOR FUNDED SECURITY UPDATES

Building on our ongoing commitment to a safe and secure learning environment, we are excited to share some important campus security updates and enhancements for the next school year afforded by 2024-25 donations from our generous Spartan community.

MODERNIZING OUR ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

We are undertaking a comprehensive upgrade of our campus-wide access control system. While you may not see a visible difference, this crucial behind-the-scenes investment will replace our older system. This upgrade will ensure seamless integration across all our security platforms, providing a more robust and efficient way to manage access to all doors and gates, which is essential to maintaining a secure environment during the school day.

IMPLEMENTING CENTEGIX: A CUTTING-EDGE EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEM

We are replacing our current lockdown system with Centegix, an innovative GPS-enabled emergency response technology. This system will empower our faculty and staff to call for assistance from their lanyard or initiate a campus-wide lockdown in an emergency. Critically, the system will immediately notify designated personnel, including first responders, based on the nature of the event. Beyond emergency response, Centegix will also enhance our post-event reunification processes and communication procedures during a lockdown emergency.

SECURITY CAMERA REPLACEMENT

In the 2023-24 school year we began the work of replacing outdated cameras across campus. We are grateful to our safety conscious donors who funded four new cameras in critical locations this year. The remaining 22 legacy cameras will be monitored and replaced as needed.

NIGHT LOCK INSTALLATIONS

Thanks to gifts made this past school year, we were able to complete the installation of Night Locks across our campus, providing our students and faculty with not only physical security but peace of mind.

GALICHIA AUDITORIUM’S SECOND ACT:

THE SECOND ACT IS ALMOST HERE

In September of 2025, the curtain will rise on a bold new chapter for one of Wichita Collegiate School’s most beloved spaces. Thanks to the efforts of our Development team with help from George Laham and Mike Gehrer, and the incredible generosity of our community, we’re thrilled to share that we have surpassed our $1.1 million fundraising goal for the Galichia Auditorium renovation. That means everything on our wish list is being funded and the transformation is nearly complete.

A

COMMUNITY-DRIVEN SUCCESS

This milestone is the result of extraordinary community spirit. It all began with a record breaking Day of Giving last fall. Donors exceeded expectations and fully funded the unrestricted Fund for Collegiate which gave us the green light to focus on a long held dream of restoring and modernizing Galichia Auditorium for the next generation of Spartans.

A SPARK THAT LIT THE FIRE Momentum took off thanks to a remarkable lead gift of $500,000 from Colby Sandlian, grandfather of Courtney Storck ’00 and father of Renae ’70 and Lance ’75. His generosity inspired others to step forward. With the help of our Leadership Donors and the broader Collegiate family, a once distant dream became a thrilling reality.

BUILT TO LAST: THE GALICHIA AUDITORIUM ENDOWMENT

As part of this transformative campaign, Wichita Collegiate is proud to establish the Galichia Auditorium Endowment, a permanent fund dedicated to maintaining and enhancing one of the most cherished spaces on our campus. This endowment will support future upgrades to lighting, sound systems, stage curtains, and other essential features that help create an exceptional performance experience for our students and community.

WHY CREATE THIS ENDOWMENT?

Preserves a Vital Campus Asset Galichia Auditorium is more than just a stage. It is a place where students find their voice, build confidence, and bring stories to life. A strong endowment protects this space and ensures it remains a top-quality venue for many years to come.

Strengthens Financial Sustainability With an endowment in place, we can reduce our reliance on annual fundraising to cover future upgrades.

Upholds Our Commitment to the Arts The performing arts are a vital part of a well-rounded education. This endowment ensures our programs stay current, competitive, and inspiring, giving every student the opportunity to thrive on stage.

Supports the Mission of Independent Education Unlike public schools, independent schools like Wichita Collegiate do not receive state funding. Endowments play a critical role in helping us maintain excellence without compromising our values or programs due to financial pressures.

This endowment ensures that the performing arts will continue to flourish at Wichita Collegiate and that every generation of Spartans will have a place to perform, connect, and shine.

FRESH SPACES FOR SPARTAN PRIDE

INTRODUCING THE DAKHIL FAMILY LOCKER ROOM AND THE R. TODD SLAWSON LOCKER ROOM

Our Upper School Girls and Boys Locker Rooms have received a much-needed and truly extraordinary transformation. These revitalized spaces now reflect the pride, discipline, and team spirit of our Spartan athletes.

Outdated fixtures and worn flooring have been replaced with durable epoxy floors, modern lighting, and individual showers. These upgrades enhance the daily experience for our student-athletes and set the tone for focus and excellence before they even step onto the court, track, or field.

We are deeply grateful to the donors who brought this vision to life. Their support has turned essential but often overlooked spaces into environments that inspire confidence, encourage camaraderie, and reflect the high standards we hold for every aspect of student life.

Todd Slawson ’79 has been a longtime supporter of athletics, and remembers his time as a Spartan Basketball Player fondly. “Some of my favorite memories at Collegiate come from being part of the Spartan Basketball Team,” Todd shared, “We brought home Collegiate’s first championship in any sport my sophomore year. That year our games were broadcast live on the radio and the championship game in Houston was live on TV. I still cherish the memories of Coach Carter, also of my teammates and all the camaraderie that went with the long road trips to play other schools in the SPC. Playing sports while at Collegiate taught me discipline, accountability, and leadership as well as the time management to still get all my homework finished. My parents and grandparents taught me by example to give back to the communities that shape one’s life. I’m proud to carry that tradition forward by supporting a space where today’s athletes can build the same lifelong memories and values.”

Todd’s parents, Judy and Don Slawson, were instrumental in many of the spaces we still enjoy today, including the North Gym. He’s remembered fondly by his former teachers, and Bunny Hill had this to say when she learned of his recent gift, “Even as a student, Todd showed an uncommon sense of leadership and pride in doing things the right way. It’s no surprise he wanted today’s Spartans to have a locker room that reflects that same mindset: strong, focused, and built to last.”

Kathie and Shaker Dakhil have 14 grandchildren at Wichita Collegiate School, and have been among our most generous supporters for decades. This gift is very special to their hearts, as it will help elevate our girls athletics program. They have watched our girls teams work extremely hard over the last few years, with their granddaughters on Upper School teams. We spoke with two of their granddaughters, Clara Monahan and Maddie Ternes about this gift.

Clara shared, “Our grandparents have always been there for us — cheering on the sidelines, breaking down the games, and celebrating every win and loss with us. But what really means the most is how much they care about everyone on the team, not just us.”

Maddie added, “They’ve seen the early mornings, the late practices, and the heart our teams put into every season. So when they decided to help create a new locker room, it was their way of showing us and our teammates how proud they are and how much they believe in girls’ athletics at WCS.”

These locker room renovations provide more than substantially improved spaces; they are a lasting testament to our community’s shared values, vision, and unwavering belief in the potential of every Spartan.

A LASTING LEGACY: KATHY LEVALLEY WAGNER COURT

This summer, the South Gym Court received a special and meaningful upgrade. In honor of Kathy LeValley Wagner’s remarkable 46 full time years of service to Wichita Collegiate School, the court now proudly bears her name. The newly refinished Kathy LeValley Wagner Court stands as a tribute to a beloved educator, coach, and mentor whose impact continues to echo through our halls, fields, and hearts.

NEW BUS IN HONOR OF COACH CLARK ENSZ

Since 1974, Mrs. Wagner has shaped generations of Spartans through her passion for physical education, her commitment to student well-being, and her joyful spirit. From coaching cheerleading and track to teaching preschoolers how to hop, skip, and race in her signature Pancake Race, she touched every corner of our campus. Though officially retired, Mrs. Wagner remains a vibrant presence in our community, frequently seen on campus as a dedicated substitute teacher and friendly face. We cannot wait to watch our students learn, play, and yes, even Turkey Tango, on the court that now celebrates her extraordinary legacy.

SPARTAN SPOTLIGHT

We are extremely lucky to have Jason Ramsey, Director of Facilities, serve as the General Contractor for every renovation project on our campus. We save more than 30% with him taking on this additional role, and it is an incredible way to stretch our donor dollars as far as possible. Wichita Collegiate School is lucky to have Jason and our dedicated Facilities team to support and elevate our beautiful campus!

After an impactful 18-year career at Collegiate, many former track and cross country families wanted to make a gift to show their love and appreciation for the legendary Clark Ensz. Coach Ensz shared how much he wished for a new bus for our school, and his supporters made it happen! This spring, Collegiate welcomed our new school bus, just in time for the US Track Team to head to Andale. We are so grateful for everyone who supported this effort, and are thrilled for our students to head to their events in our safe, beautiful bus! More than anything, we are grateful to Coach Clark Ensz for his dedicated service to our students, and the larger running community in Wichita. His passion for running has been an inspiration to everyone he coached and mentored.

EMPOWERING FUTURE PROBLEM SOLVERS

YEAR TWO OF THE MITCHEM ENTREPRENEURSHIP GIFT

Just one year ago, we announced a transformative gift from Hunter and Mallory Mitchem, whose vision and generosity sparked a new era of innovation and entrepreneurship at Collegiate, all without impacting tuition. Inspired by their journey as entrepreneurs and their passion for problem solving, the Mitchems partnered with us to fund the salary of an additional faculty member in this discipline and invest in key areas across campus.

YEAR ONE

The first year of the Mitchem Family’s investment built a strong foundation for a thriving, rigorous entrepreneurship program. Successes include:

ƒ David LeVan named Mitchem Chair of Entrepreneurship, leading course expansion, real-world capstone experiences, and community partnerships

ƒ Curriculum expanded to include AP Microeconomics, Personal Finance, and Applied Leadership, complementing Principles of Economics and AP Macroeconomics

ƒ Campus-wide investment in innovation tools to support creativity and design thinking across all grade levels

ƒ Learning spaces upgraded, including the Entrepreneurship Classroom and Timothy O’Shaughnessy Commons, with advanced AV systems for high-impact presentations and virtual guest speakers

WHAT’S NEXT FOR COLLEGIATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP: YEAR TWO AND BEYOND

Launching Business INCubatoredu

This fall, we are proud to introduce Business INCubatoredu, a nationally recognized capstone course developed by Uncharted Learning. Already implemented in leading high schools across the country, this course will highlight the importance of growth over outcome as students engage in an immersive entrepreneurial experience at our Upper School.

Students will:

ƒ Identify real-world problems and work in teams to develop innovative solutions

ƒ Conduct market research and build business models

ƒ Create products or services with real market potential

ƒ Receive mentorship and coaching from experienced professionals

ƒ Present two pitches to our Entrepreneurship Advisory Board

This hands-on, college-level course builds essential skills in communication, leadership, financial literacy, collaboration, and innovation. Students will develop the mindset and tools to turn ideas into real-world impact by testing, failing, and learning from their mistakes.

HOW IT WORKS: KEY VOLUNTEER ROLES IN BUSINESS INCUBATOREDU

A distinctive feature of this course is the opportunity for David LeVan to collaborate with the business community to bring the best possible experience to our students.

Mentors | Each team is matched with a business professional who provides strategic insight and support throughout the school year. Mentors will connect with their team at least twice a month from September through April.

Coaches | Subject matter experts join David LeVan to teach essential topics like product development, marketing, and pricing, helping students turn concepts into action.

HONORING THE PAST. INVESTING IN THE FUTURE.

The Tom Davis Legacy Endowment, created in honor of his 19 years as Head of School, supports programming focused on Freedom, Personal Character and Ethics, Economics, and Entrepreneurship. This year, the Tom Davis Legacy Endowment is helping us bring the nationally acclaimed Business INCubatoredu program to Collegiate.

By combining Tom Davis’s enduring legacy with the Mitchems’ energy and innovation, we are building an extraordinary learning experience for our students.

BLUE & GOLD CELEBRATION

Collegiate’s Blue & Gold Donors are among our most loyal and dedicated philanthropic supporters, whose generous contributions help us deliver the exceptional education we strive to provide our students.

THIS CHARITABLE GROUP INCLUDES:

Those making an annual contribution of $2,500 or more

Those with a lifetime investment of $100,000 or more

This spring, our Board of Trustees was thrilled to thank them with a cocktail party and a special gift, a charming coffee mug decorated by our youngest students.

“The Board of Trustees was proud to host and personally fund this year’s Blue & Gold Donor Celebration at Chester’s. This was our way of expressing heartfelt gratitude to those whose generous gifts account for 92.6% of Collegiate’s annual fundraising revenue. Their generosity plays a critical role in sustaining excellence at Wichita Collegiate School. It is because of supporters like them that we remain, in my view, the premier K–12 academic institution in Kansas.”

If you’d like to join this wonderful group of supporters in 2025-26, we’d love to have you!

Wichita Collegiate School Honors Visionary Leaders

HONORARY TRUSTEE INDUCTIONS

It is easy to enjoy our beautiful campus, cheer on our teams, or take part in a cherished tradition without realizing the years of vision and dedication that made it all possible. Every brick, every endowment, and every celebration reflects the work of leaders who came before us.

Great Trustees do not serve for recognition. They lead with foresight, knowing that their decisions may only bear fruit years later, shaping opportunities over time for students they may never meet. Their service is a gift to the future.

Four years ago, the Board of Trustees created the Honorary Trustee program to recognize the volunteers whose long-term service helped build the foundation of Wichita Collegiate School. As Nathan Washer shared, “Collegiate is a school with a bright future, but we move forward with confidence only when we honor the foundation on which we stand.”

This year, they proudly inducted Ellen and Adam Beren and the late Nestor Weigand, Jr. as Honorary Trustees, honoring their steadfast dedication and transformative generosity.

THE BEREN LEGACY: LEADERSHIP ROOTED IN PURPOSE

Ellen and Adam Beren have never stood on the sidelines of Wichita Collegiate School’s story. They stepped forward with vision, commitment, and a belief in the power of education to shape lives. Ellen served on the Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2014, including four years as Chair, during which she led one of the school’s most impactful capital campaigns. During this campaign, they established the Adam and Ellen Beren Endowment for Financial Assistance, which has already transformed the lives of more than a dozen students and will continue to do so for generations.

The Berens’ legacy is especially visible in the Beren Middle School, where a plaque at the entrance honors their deep connection to Collegiate. It includes the names of Ellen and Adam, their three children, Sophie ’13, Samuel ’15, and Esther ’18, and Adam’s late parents Robert Beren and Joan Beren, who were leaders during the school’s foundational years. This multi-generational commitment reflects a profound dedication to education, leadership, and service.

When asked why they gave so much of themselves to this school, Ellen recalled a phrase from her mother-in-law, Joan Beren: “There were trees when I got here.”

This simple phrase holds a powerful truth. It reminds us that the shade we enjoy today exists because someone came before us and chose to plant. It is a quiet tribute to those who gave without needing to experience the outcome, who built not for recognition but for the good of others. For the Berens, it was also a call to action. To recognize the trees you encounter is to accept the responsibility to plant more – to create a lasting impact by caring enough to invest for the next generation.

“You planted a lot of trees at Wichita Collegiate School,” said Head of School Nathan Washer in his tribute. “There is no doubt that the shade our students enjoy today was made possible by Ellen and Adam’s vision and generosity.”

NESTOR WEIGAND JR.: A LIFE OF QUIET POWER AND LASTING INFLUENCE

Nestor Weigand Jr. served as a Trustee from 1986 to 2004, guiding Collegiate through one of its most transformative eras. During those years, the student body grew from 591 to 969 students, and major changes took place in staffing and strategy as well as on our campus. Nestor was at the center of it all, offering leadership that was calm, consistent, and wise.

Faculty who worked with Nestor speak of his genuine care. He asked about their classrooms, listened to their challenges, and celebrated their wins. His leadership was never loud but always deeply felt. Many remember him as someone who helped create a culture rooted in kindness, integrity, and respect.

Nestor was a trusted voice during seasons of growth and change. He believed in the power of education not only to shape individuals but to uplift an entire community. He brought that belief to life through generous support that touched every part of the school.

His contributions included funding classroom improvements, enhancing faculty benefits, and helping to establish some of Collegiate’s most iconic spaces. These included the Koch Upper School, the Martha Shoaf Lower School, and the James R. Ockerman Amphitheatre. Nestor’s generosity extended to facilitating transformative experiences as well, such as bringing in phenomenal speakers to inspire our students.

His sons, Nes ’94, Stephen ’99, and Johnathan, attended the ceremony to receive this honor in his memory, representing a man whose influence enriched the lives of all who walked Collegiate’s halls.

“Nestor made our faculty feel like family,” said Head of School Nathan Washer. “He supported our school through every challenge and remained a quiet architect of its evolution.”

Year after year, appeal after appeal, dream after dream of what Collegiate could become, Nestor said YES. He was one of the school’s most consistent and generous donors and one of its most faithful advocates. He believed deeply in the future of Wichita Collegiate School and patiently worked to elevate and illuminate it.

Nestor’s life was one of profound impact, and our school is part of the powerful legacy he left for all of Wichita.

ALUMNI BOARD

LEGACY, LEADERSHIP, AND THE LIFELONG IMPACT OF ALUMNI PHILANTHROPY

The Wichita Collegiate School Alumni Association serves as a vital link between our past and present, building lasting relationships that ensure every alumnus and their family knows they always have a home at Collegiate.

Throughout the year, the Alumni Board leads beloved events that reconnect our graduates with one another and with our campus, including Mentor Day, Homecoming Weekend, and the WCS Golf Classic. These traditions celebrate the spirit of Collegiate and are often a catalyst for impact, channeling alumni generosity into meaningful support for current and future Spartans.

A RECORD-BREAKING YEAR FOR THE WCS GOLF CLASSIC

The WCS Golf Classic had an incredible 25th year, earning both its highest gross and highest net in its history. Proceeds are invested in the WCS Alumni Endowment Fund, which the Alumni Board created 31 years ago to ensure high-achieving students can attend Collegiate regardless of financial background.

Van Winter ’05 has been on the WCS Golf Classic Committee since 2022, during which time its revenue has grown by 95%. He shares, “It’s important to generate support for the WCS Alumni Endowment Fund by helping others understand its mission. Providing an opportunity for students who may need assistance to have the same WCS experience that alumni and parents have seen firsthand over the years is definitely a cause worth championing.

The WCS Golf Classic provides long-term benefits that echo far beyond the final round.

REUNION GIVING THAT HONORS AND INSPIRES

The Class of 2004 and the Legacy of Richie McNabb Each year, Homecoming provides a meaningful moment for reflection and reconnection. In 2024, the Class of 2004 came together to honor their classmate, Richie McNabb, who exemplified resilience, joy, and perseverance throughout his time at Collegiate. In Richie’s memory, classmates made a heartfelt gift to the WCS Endowment Fund, ensuring that his legacy would create access to a Collegiate education for generations to come.

Over the weekend, they gathered near the Lower School Playground to plant a tree in his memory. It was there, during recess and early friendships, that many of them first met Richie. The tree now stands as a tribute to the bonds formed at Collegiate and a symbol of lasting community.

GRANDPARENT PHILANTHROPY: GIFTS THAT

My grandmother, a one time teacher and lifelong learner, was fond of saying, "An education is the one thing that can't be taken from you." It’s a sentiment that resonates with me still and is shared by many grandparents who give to WCS. Part of the American dream is wanting more for the next generation, and an excellent education is essential to their securing the brightest future possible. Grandparent philanthropy is a powerful expression of that hope—an investment not only in their own family's legacy, but in the strength and promise of our entire school and its surrounding community.

A considerable number of Collegiate’s most generous and steadfast supporters are grandparents of not only current students but also alumni. Colby Sandlian’s historic lead gift of $500,000 to Galichia Auditorium’s Second Act is a recent astonishing example of alumni grandparent impact. Such gifts reflect grandparents’ deep understanding of the importance of a stellar education; many continue giving long after their Spartans have graduated, in recognition of the school’s role

endure

in shaping the principled, accomplished individuals their grandchildren have become.

When asked why he chooses to support WCS, Russ Meyer, 2024 Day of Giving Challenger donor and grandfather to CJ '23 and Will '25, muses, "In addition to their academic achievements, both grandsons benefited greatly by participating in a variety of activities, including track, learning to be the best they can be." Russ believes Collegiate played a key role in developing the qualities he's proudest of in his grandsons: their strong work ethic, authenticity, humility, and empathy for others.

Many of our grandparent donors corroborate Russ’s experience, saying the impact of a Collegiate education extends far beyond academics— it shapes character, fuels ambition, and builds a foundation for a meaningful life. Their philanthropy is more than generosity; it is a testament to their belief in Collegiate’s mission, the values it instills, and the opportunity it can provide to generations to come.

“Why have we been inspired to donate year after year? RESULTS!! We have had kids and grandkids at WCS for almost 50 years and have watched their successes, from coloring in (and outside) the lines to sports and performing arts to classroom success to college success to their successes in their adult lives. WCS is worth every penny!”

“As alumni grandparents, we give to Collegiate in gratitude for the outstanding educational opportunities provided to our grandchildren and to ensure that those same educational opportunities are available for other motivated students.”

“Why do we continue to support WCS? First, it’s our way to thank the teachers and staff for everything they invested in our children. Secondly, we are grateful for the families and visionaries that came before us that gave their time, talents and treasures to build and secure the future of our beloved school. Now it is our joy to invest not only to show our gratitude, to secure the future for our 14 grandchildren, but to cement the future of WCS for the next generation and many more to come.”
