Welcome to Singapore
It is said that we must never give up dreaming because dreams do come true. That is why we celebrate, with much anticipation, Singapore hosting the WCPT Congress in May this year! While the congress has been held in WCPT’s Asia Western Pacific region before – in Japan in 1999 – this is only the second time that it has come to Asia. Hence, we hope that physical therapists, especially those in our region, will take advantage of the close proximity of the congress and participate in this golden opportunity to learn and share from our collective professional experience. There is so much for you to experience and discover in the little country of which we are so proud. The congress could not be better timed – because this year Singapore celebrates its 50th anniversary and many events have been organised to commemorate this important milestone. We are humbled that a 2014 Bloomberg report ranked Singapore as having the most efficient health care system in the world. High standards of living, education and a focus on preventive medicine have impacted positively on the health status of Singaporeans. Only one in five has a BMI of over 25 and the average life expectancy is 82 years. It has been a steep learning experience for us to arrive at this level, and there are lessons that we can share with you – just as we have much to learn from you in our professional journeys. We invite you to come visit and experience first-hand our clinical health facilities. Of course, the bonus of coming to the congress is also to enjoy the rich cultural diversity Singapore offers in terms of history, festivals, traditions and amazing cuisine. You must try our famous chilli crabs and many local delicacies. Make some time, as well, to visit many of Singapore’s attractions including Gardens by the Bay (the congress party night venue), featuring the world’s largest columnless glass house displaying exotic plants and fauna. Bring your family as well to enjoy the River Safari and your children will love the Universal Studios. We cannot wait to share with you our beautiful Garden City and look forward to the wonderful time we will enjoy at the WCPT Congress 2015. See you in Singapore soon!
