National Bowel Screening Programme An electronic compilation of visual and audible resources

The National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) is free for people aged 60-74 years. It aims to save lives by finding bowel cancer at an early stage, when it can often be successfully treated.

Below are different resources showing ‘how to’ guides, why it’s important and what it’s like to have a colonoscopy.

How to do the NBSP test

The lowdown on Bowel screening with Hone The ‘how to do’ bowel screening test is available in 11 different languages including Te reo Māori, Tongan, Samoan, Cook Islands, Niuean, Fijian, Kiribati, Rotuma, Tuvalu, Tokelau, and English. Each video has a voice over, animated pictures and written text. The English version uses sign language also.

A colonoscopy

When you complete your FIT kit, you will get a negative or positive result. A negative result means you will be screened again in two years’ time. If you have a positive result, you will most likely be offered a colonoscopy.
