MenB Bexsero and Comirnaty grey cap x 2 resources
An update from the Immunisation Advisory Centre team to ensure you can access the resources you need for MenB Bexsero and Comirnaty grey caps x2 (30mcg and 15/15mcg), which are to be used from 1 March 2023.
MenB Bexsero vaccine
MenB Bexsero vaccine is available and funded from 1 March for routine infant vaccination. There is also a catch up programme for those aged under 5 years and for adolescents and adults (aged 13 to 25 years) living in close living conditions.

Please note:
We will be adding a template for standing orders that may be needed for providing prophylactic paracetamol.
• Order vaccines through Propharma as usual.
• Providers are eligible for two deliveries per month which will be useful for managing fridge space - noting Bexsero vaccine will arrive in single-dose packages until later in 2023 and influenza orders are just around the corner.
• There is no compensation for private market stock but it can continue to be used for private purchase.
• Bexsero vaccine can be entered into the PMS and claimed from 1 March. This will be slightly different for each PMS type and will be communicated to PMS users by PMS vendors.
• The administration fee for Bexsero will be paid if it is administered with other scheduled vaccines or if it is administered on its own at 8 weeks and 4 months.
• Opportunistic catch-up Bexsero vaccine administered to the eligible groups anytime from 1 March will be funded.
• Bexsero vaccine can be entered into the PMS and claimed from 1 March. This will be slightly different for each PMS type and will be communicated to PMS users by PMS vendors.
Comirnaty vaccine changes: from purple cap to two grey cap formulations
As you know, the Comirnaty (12+ years) purple cap vaccine is retired and replaced with two Comirnaty grey cap formulations for use commencing 1 March 2023.
• Comirnaty 30mcg (12+ years) grey cap vaccine for primary doses
• Comirnaty Original/Omicron 15/15mcg (16+ years, if eligible) grey cap vaccine for booster doses

Logistics reminder
• From end of day 28 February, all Comirnaty (12+ years) purple cap vaccine vials are to be disposed of in the Interwaste vial disposal bins and recorded as wastage in the CIR*.
*Vaccination providers impacted by the floods and Cyclone Gabrielle may need extra time for the transition. Please contact your Logistics Lead or vaccinelogistics@health.govt.nz for support.
