Life A Plenty recuperative retreats

Life A Plenty Charitable Trust (LAPCT) was established in 2008 and has been offering free 'Recuperative Retreats' since 2015 for women in the wider Bay of Plenty region including Taupo and Tokoroa, who have been recommended a period of rest and recuperation by a health professional.

We also offer comprehensive and affordable professional development workshops and seminars for practitioners in the health and social sectors. Our objective is: "To walk with people finding meaning, hope, and fulfilment in their lives"

The retreats cater to women of all ethnicities aged 18 plus who are experiencing emotional and psychological distress to the point of burnout which has been caused by historical experiences of trauma or current life challenges. Referrals come to the Trust through health and social sector professionals who identify those who are in need but are without the financial means to access such support themselves.

Each four-night retreat provides an opportunity for up to eight women to take a break from their day-to-day activities to replenish their minds, bodies, and spirit, and at the same time receive support to make positive changes in their lives and to build resilience. They provide a safe and secure environment for participants to experience complete rest in a quiet, reflective atmosphere. Each retreat is free for participants with all meals provided.

During a retreat, participants can attend daily psycho-educational workshops covering topics such as relaxation exercises, strategies for coping with anxiety, stress management techniques, Te whare tapu wha, sleep boundaries, setting boundaries, understanding grief, self-compassion, and problemsolving strategies to effectively manage life challenges.

The workshops are delivered by current Trustees who are experienced therapists, educators, and professionals with extensive knowledge and expertise across a range of areas including depression, anxiety, stress, relationships, grief and trauma, collaboration, and communications.

We also have a world-renowned speaker offering to support our fundraising efforts with an upcoming PD event, as LAP is a not for profit and solely on community grants.
