Flu vaccination updates

Widened accessed to 2023 funded influenza vaccinations

• See the Pharmac’s 3 March 2023 media release for more info.

• Includes children aged 6 months to 12 years inclusive.

• 2023 eligible groups:

o pregnant people

o people aged 65 years and older

o Māori and Pacific peoples aged 55 to 64 years

o tamariki aged 6 months to 12 years (inclusive)

o people aged 6 months to under 65 years with eligible conditions

o people aged 6 months to under 65 years with serious mental health and addiction conditions.

2023 flu kit booklet

• Can now be accessed online at influenza.org.nz . Version dated 07/03/2023 on front and back covers.

• Renamed to FLU2023 Essential information for health professionals.

• Has minimal colour, as requested, so that providers who print it out themselves won’t use up so much printer ink as in previous years.

Influenza vaccine can now be ordered via Healthcare Logistics

• Visit influenza.org.nz/vaccines/vaccine-availability-and-ordering-of-vaccines

• Vaccines will be distributed from 20 March onwards.

• Needles need to be ordered for AFLURIA QUAD, AFLURIA QUAD JUNIOR and FLUADQUAD from suppliers such as EBOS, Amtech or pharmacy wholesalers. For FLUQUADRI needles are unattached and included separately with the vaccines.

Healthcare worker vaccination

• Employers of non-district employed health and disability workers can have the cost of their influenza vaccine reimbursed from the National Immunisation Programme.

• Visit tewhatuora.govt.nz/for-the-health-sector/health-sector-guidance/diseases-andconditions/influenza/ which will be updated this week with 2023 reimbursement information.

Book My Vaccine (BMV) is available for influenza vaccinations in 2023

• In 2023, consumers will be able to book their influenza vaccine appointments via bookmyvaccine.health.nz

• Appointment availability starts 1 April; consumers can book these appointments from 16 March.

• Providers currently using or intending to use BMV for influenza vaccination (new for 2023) need to urgently upload their appointment availability.
