Diabetes Part 1: Fundamentals By the end of this course participants will gain an understanding of fundamental diabetes care and screening in primary health; equity in the BOP region; completing a DAR, IGT and CVDRA; giving brief advice on lifestyle change; knowing when and who to refer patients onto when needed. Recommended pre-reading: NZSSD online course - https://learning.nzssd.org.nz/ Section 1) ‘What is diabetes; Section 5) Nutritional Plan and Weight Management; Section 6) Promoting self-care of diabetes, healthy lifestyle and well-being; Section 10) Complications; Section 11) Hypertension / Cardiovascular Disease; Section 12) Diabetic Retinopathy; and Section 13) High-risk foot, neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease.

Diabetes Part 2: Medication Management By the end of this course participants will gain an understanding of diabetes medications and appropriate treatment plans, taking into consideration the patient’s uniqueness, cultural safety, age, common comorbidities, and contraindications. Recommended pre-reading: NZSSD online course - https://learning.nzssd.org.nz/. All sections, with particular focus on the medication section.

Diabetes Insulin Start By the end of this course participants will gain all the skills and knowledge needed to safely guide a patient through an insulin start programme; use freestyle libre devices; provide follow-up care and advise patients on insulin titration during annual reviews. Mandatory pre-reading: NZSSD online course - https://learning.nzssd.org.nz/. All sections. Please email the certificate of completion before the start of the workshop.

Diabetes Focus Group This group is suitable for any general practice prescriber or nurse with a special interest in diabetes. Held over Zoom, one evening per month. Each session will focus on a different topic related to diabetes management and will include an open forum to discuss case studies and gain collegial support.
