Vaccination Clinical Supervisor – role guidance About the position The vaccination clinical supervisor will work as part of a team that will deliver safe and effective service for the mass delivery of COVID-19 vaccines. The supervisor will be a qualified, registered healthcare professional. They will have ideally 2 years vaccine and immunisation healthcare delivery experience or equivalent recent healthcare experience that is relevant to the provision of the vaccination programme. The vaccination clinical supervisor will be responsible for the provision of supervision and direction for a team of COVID-19 vaccinators to safely and effectively administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

It is expected that supervisors are not simultaneously responsible for any other roles or processes.

In particular, the Vaccination Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for: Providing professional and clinical direction and guidance for a team of up to six (6) COVID19 vaccinators to safely and effectively administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

Providing professional and clinical advice and guidance in a timely manner to facilitate care for the consumer.

Immediately available for reasonable access when required by the COVID-19 vaccinators or consumers, i.e. must always be available on the premises.

Maintaining high service delivery standards by using up to date knowledge, skills and ensures the team apply relevant local policies, IMAC guidelines and Ministry of Health standards and guidelines.

Escalating queries and concerns beyond knowledge and scope to the appropriate site or clinical leads.

Focusing on cultural needs and cultural safety of all individuals, family/whānau and community.

Will only supervise and direct a maximum of six (6) COVID-19 vaccinators at one time and will not be performing other roles within the vaccination site.

Has knowledge and understanding of the training requirements, role and scope of a COVID-19 vaccinator and the service delivery models in which they can work.

Current as at 14 June 2021 Provide direction and guidance to the COVID-19 vaccinator team. The vaccination clinical supervisor must be available for timely clinical advice and support when needed.

Ensures the process for the COVID-19 vaccinator to seek contact with and support from the supervisor is clearly documented and communicated within the vaccination team.

Guides, monitors and evaluates the safe practice and competence of the COVID-19 vaccinator. Retains accountability for evaluating whether the COVID-19 Vaccinator maintains the relevant standards and outcomes.

Will intervene and escalate, according to policy and procedure, any identified or reported practice that is of concern.

May be required to assess and sign-off the competency of new vaccinators.

Encourages a culture of consultation and feedback between COVID-19 vaccinators and the supervisor and the wider clinical team.

Provides clear direction and constructive feedback to their team.

Clinical practice

In consultation with the wider vaccination team, applies experience in immunisation and vaccination practice to guide and direct the vaccinator team.

Be flexible to working in other roles within scope depending on the need of the vaccination site.

Work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure those providing immunisations receive high quality input and support.

Provide timely support and leadership to the COVID-19 vaccinator in the event of an adverse reaction post vaccination event.

Utilise information technology

Demonstrate ability to access and use available clinical information systems including the COVID-19 Immunisation Register(CIR).

Is conversant with applications required for reporting incidents and adverse events.

Maintains the privacy of the health consumer and their health information as per the Privacy Act 2020.

Provides guidance and support to the COVID-19 Vaccinator team regarding correct and safe documentation.

Person specification Essential: A commitment to cultural safety and equity Experience: o

Fully authorised vaccinator, ideally with 2 years recent experience in a healthcare setting, OR

A registered healthcare professional who is authorised to vaccinate and has recent experience relevant to this role, for example immunisation and vaccination healthcare or emergency care

Current Annual Practicing Certificate Indemnity insurance either provided through self, union or employer Excellent communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work well under pressure Works well within the multidisciplinary team with a consumer, whānau and community focus Role model by initiating, maintaining and concluding relationships with all providers Demonstrable IT skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Desired: Fluency in other languages widely used in the region Experience supervising or directing a team of healthcare workers
