5 September 2022 Maura Thompson, General Practice NZ Sent via email Kia ora Re: Mamaenga roa (chronic pain) model of care While the COVID period has diverted much work in the health sector, there has been an ability to continue to progress some work, albeit at a slower pace. The piece of work that I would like to present to you today is the Mamaenga roa (chronic pain) model of care work. This work has been progressed over a number of months by a dedicated expert group representing the many professions and the clinical experience required to work with people who live with chronic pain. Our collective work has been bolstered by people with lived experience to ensure we keep the work grounded in reality. As we have progressed this work, it has always had a focus on developing a model of care for New Zealand. This has been enhanced with the Pae Ora legislation that will enable more in the way of national and regional working. There was a collective focus during this process to ensure we were reflecting Te Tiriti principles and to weave this through the document. As an initial document, we collectively recognise that this is not the finished product, but it should provide a clear direction of travel. It also specifically does not address implementation, but we have sought to outline a pathway for implementation. This is the work we will look to do with our Te Whatu Ora colleagues over time. What we are looking for at his time is general feedback. To assist we have several questions that will be helpful in looking at in designing implementation pathways. Our collective request is that you take the time to review the document and to feed back on the following questions. To keep to a process, we are requesting that any feedback be received by Friday 16 September 2022.
