BOPDHB NBSP Update 26 November 2021

BOPDHB National Bowel Screening Programme Update As you may be aware, the BOPDHB was originally scheduled to join the National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) in August 2021. This has been deferred to March 2022 (TBC) for operational reasons at the DHB, and disruptions due to COVID-19. The Ministry of Health performed a readiness assessment virtually on 1 September 2021, and onsite assessments at Whakatāne and Tauranga hospitals on 2 and 3 November 2021. The readiness assessment is to confirm the ability of a DHB to safely implement a high-quality programme. The assessment requires us to address some capacity and facility issues, which we are working with the Ministry to remediate so we can meet the new indicative go live date. Planning is underway to review GP education timelines and delivery of resources to ensure ‘just in time’ education. We are working with PHOs/PHA to confirm new NBSP CME/education dates, around midFebruary 2022. No change is needed to the NBSP contracts. These will roll over to the new indicative go live date, March 2022. If you have any questions, please drop us a line. Regards, Megan Buckley NBSP Programme Manager On behalf of the BOPDHB NBSP Team Bowelscreening@bopdhb.govt.nz
