Allergy New Zealand launches new guidelines for schools and kura We are pleased to announce the launch of our comprehensive new Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Guidelines for Schools and Kura. This letter is to inform your Primary Health Organisation (PHO) about the Guidelines and make your GP members aware of it for their patients. Allergy New Zealand is a 40-year-old national charity that works to improve the quality of life for New Zealanders living with allergies. We do this by providing evidence-based information and support to people whose lives are affected by allergies. The Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Guidelines for Schools and Kura have been developed by Allergy New Zealand to support: · School Leadership · School Management · Teachers and Kaiako throughout New Zealand. They are part of promoting safe and inclusive school environments for all students, particularly those living with allergies. We want to build confidence in school staff responsible for the health management, protection, and care of those students who are doctor-diagnosed as at risk of allergies and anaphylaxis. The Guidelines have been peer reviewed by healthcare professionals on our Allergy NZ Medical Panel and align with current evidence-based allergy management advice. They are not intended as clinical or medical guidelines for allergy diagnosis or treatment. Medical advice is best accessed from Immunologists, General Practitioners, or Nurse Practitioners. Please share this resource widely to reach as many people as possible, who are responsible for the day-to-day care and support of children at risk of allergies and anaphylaxis. The launch of the new Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Guidelines for Schools and Kura follows the success of Allergy New Zealand’s recent FundaPen campaigns. This initiative has raised valuable awareness and provided free EpiPens to prescriber-diagnosed allergy patients at risk of anaphylaxis.
