Thursday, 10 June 2021 Stakeholder Information Sessions Primary Maternity Services Notice 2021 & Maternity Data Standards/New Zealand Perinatal Spine The Ministry of Health (The Ministry) is hosting a series of stakeholder information sessions across Aotearoa New Zealand. These sessions will give people working in the maternity sector the opportunity to find out about the changes to the Primary Maternity Services Notice 2021, to learn about the Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO) Maternity Care Summary Standard and the New Zealand Perinatal Spine projects. These sessions will provide midwives, GPs, obstetricians and other stakeholders with relevant practical information and guidance on how the upcoming changes to the Primary Maternity Services Notice 2021 will affect them, including what services they will be able to claim for, and how to claim for them. Attendees will also be updated on important changes to the HISO Maternity Care Summary Standard which are helping to standardise the collection of maternity clinical information with the aim of improving maternity care in New Zealand. The HISO Maternity Care Summary Standard is also an enabler for other primary or secondary compliant solutions to integrate maternity information nationally to the Perinatal Spine. Primary Maternity Services Notice The Ministry of Health undertook a public consultation on proposed changes to the existing Primary Maternity Services Notice last year from September to November. Implementing the Budget 2020 allocation of $85 million (over four years) requires amendments to the Primary Maternity Services Notice in order to deliver this funding for additional primary maternity care to women with complex needs, and to women living in rural areas. Stakeholder feedback was crucial to this review process and we received 944 individual submissions during the consultation process. The insights arising from this consultation are incredibly valuable and we have carefully considered all feedback as we finalised the changes to the Primary Maternity Service Notice. The amended Primary Maternity Services Notice 2021 will be gazetted in June, with the changes coming into effect later this year. Members of the Ministry's Maternity Team will give a presentation and answer questions about what these changes mean for you. Details on the information sessions is below.
