COPD Management for Nurses (Part 2)

This CME/CNE event will
• Enable Nurses who have completed the first COPD Zoom CNE/CME (Part 1) to enrol eligible patients on the WBOPPHO COPD management programme.
• Upskill Nurses to provide the COPD programme in practice. This event is part 2 of the training for nurses
• Update existing providers a refresher on the purpose and practical aspects of the programme.
Topic
Recap COPD Programme: Eligibility and claiming.
Overview of service and Pulmonary rehabilitation.
Inhaled medication and devices for COPD. Use of oral meds for shortness of breath and anxiety.
Identifying target/priortiy population.
Invitations COPD appointment planning -When/how to allocate time.

Running COPD Programme, Action plans.
Respiratory examination- (Pls bring a stethascope).

Following the session attendees will:
▪ Be aware of options to identify priority populations and consider Māori health.

▪ Have awareness of Asthma and respiratory services including wait time and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
▪ Have increased confidence in consultation planning to support patients with COPD and be confident to access and complete COPD action plans
▪ Be able to complete Blue Card and understand and use CAT
▪ Understanding of Inhaled medications and oral options for SOB symptom relief
▪ Confident in performing a simple respiratory examination.

The CME/CNE activity has been endorsed by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) and has been approved for up to 1.5 CME credits for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes.
THE WBOP PHO education team will only issue certificates and register attendee details on the RNZCGP CME register for those who attend events in person. Those who attend via Zoom or watch a recorded version of the event at a later date are able to claim CME points by entering the event as an ‘individually planned learning activity’ and completing a self-reflective activity via the RNCGP dashboard
