Sermon Notes Study Habits Part 4 — “God’s Library” Acts 17:24-28 Today marks the middle of our Series, Study Habits, and the first day of our new discipleship classes.

It is no coincidence that these go hand in

hand. Both are opportunities for our members as well as visitors to look internally at the importance of personal spiritual growth.

Continued

personal spiritual growth is a product of true discipleship. True discipleship is a product of great discipline. When a church is filled with many individuals who are all working toward true discipleship, God fosters growth. Growth can be measured any number of ways. This morning in our discipleship classes, we will take a look at three pictures used by Paul to illustrate church growth. All found in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3: 1. The church is a family — the goal is maturity (vv. 1-4) It is natural for children to grow physically as they age. This should also be true spiritually. The marks of maturity are what you eat, what you do and what you say. 2. The church is a field — the goal is fruitfulness (vv. 5-9) It doesn’t matter who planted or who watered; the point is, are the plants growing? Fruit includes the results of your work, the response of people and the reward of kingdom fulfillment. 3. The church is a building — the goal is quality (vv. 9-23) We are like a building. The measure of a good structure is quality. This includes the right foundation, the right materials and the right motives.
