CONGRATULATIONS MICAH! Micah Lynn Mcdowell is graduating from Oakland High School and plans to attend the University of Kentucky to get a degree in Physical Therapy. Welcome to West End Church of Christ, a restoration church founded in 1929. Each Sunday morning, our family opens its doors to be reminded that our value of Jesus is derived from the value of our brokenness. We are a broken people living in a broken world in need of a Savior.
Our vision: A Place To Belong We believe everyone, no matter their background, is created to belong to the kingdom of God.
Our values: diversity embracing unique differences and experiences strengthens our family
generational roots discipleship that builds on our past and for the sustainable future
grace in love how we treat one another especially in times of disagreement and conflict
personal bible study ownership through study and prayer of our own individual spiritual growth
Thank you for joining our family and know that there is a place for you here. Please let me know if I can help you in any way.

Our church is blessed to have a Visitation Team that meets the third Tuesday of each month. Jan Welden and Kris Thurman currently serve as the leads for this team. Each month, the team gathers to pray over the needs and concerns of our church family. Individual cards (similar to those outlined on this page) are distributed to ensure a visit or a note of encouragement is received from someone on the team. An open invitation is extended to anyone who would like to serve on the visitation team. This is a group exemplifying our church value of grace in love. You can e-mail Jan or Kris for more details.
If We are the Body p4, eagerly desire the greater gifts If you are visiting with us this morning, welcome to our family. This morning, we continue our series on family perspective as we discuss what it means to be the Body of Christ. We have used chapter 12 of the first letter to the church in Corinth as our scriptural foundation. I would like verse 31 to be our calling to respond to the message of Jesus this morning. 1 Corinthians 12:31 calls us to obey: “But earnestly desire the greater gifts.
This command is not
addressed to individual believers as would lend itself to distinguishing some individual gifts as being better than others. This cannot be the case as each gift is given by God for what He determines is best for us and good for the overall church body. It’s not a matter of having gifts on demand. Instead, collectively, as a local body of Christ, we ought to desire that the greater gifts of edification and instruction in the word be very evident among us.
We need the support gifts (apostles,
prophets, evangelists, teachers, pastor-teachers) to be foundational in a church so that the rest of the gifts can flourish and grow and be expressed. There is a context in which our gifts are to be expressed: the sacrificial way of agape love at work. So verse 31 encourages action on our part . . . God wants us to honor one another, to serve one another, and put to work the gifts with which he has so richly endowed us.
