Welcome to West End Church of Christ, a restoration church founded in 1929. Each Sunday morning, our family opens its doors to be reminded that our value of Jesus is derived from the value of our brokenness. We are a broken people living in a broken world in need of a Savior.

Our vision: A Place To Belong We believe everyone, no matter their background, is created to belong to the kingdom of God.

Our values: diversity embracing unique differences and experiences strengthens our family

generational roots discipleship that builds on our past and for the sustainable future

grace in love how we treat one another especially in times of disagreement and conflict

personal bible study ownership through study and prayer of our own individual spiritual growth

Thank you for joining our family and know that there is a place for you here. Please let me know if I can help you in any way.

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service This annual service will be Sunday, November 22 at 7 pm at The Temple (5015 Harding Rd.) The service will include original music from a Temple songwriter, Stacy Beyer, some appropriate patriotic music, some Scriptural readings, a benediction and invocation, and an offering to be collected and divided between Second Harvest and World Relief.

The evening will also include some reflections on the immigrant experience by Dr. Frank Boehm, a Temple member and distinguished physician, communal leader and contributing writer for the Tennessean. Josh Barton will offer a brief text from the Jewish scriptures on thanksgiving, Wesley Bender will do the same from Christian scriptures, Thomas Kleinert will offer an opening prayer and Tom Gholson will offer the closing benediction. The service will be followed by a wonderful reception of delicious sweets, treats and other festive culinary delights. For all of us at West End this is a great way to express our value of diversity.

COMMUNION DELIVERY November 8 – Ken Dye 15 – Kris Thurman 22 – Chuck Whittle 29 – Neal Allison

Our church is blessed to have a Visitation Team that meets the third Tuesday of each month. Jan Welden and Kris Thurman currently serve as the leads for this team. Each month, the team gathers to pray over the needs and concerns of our church family. Individual cards (similar to those outlined on this page) are distributed to ensure a visit or a note of encouragement is received from someone on the team. An open invitation is extended to anyone who would like to serve on the visitation team. This is a group exemplifying our church value of grace in love. You can e-mail Jan or Kris for more details.

a place to belong p2 membership Ephesians 1:15-23 Last week we created a framework for our current series, a place to belong. This framework centered around vision. A really great vision is simply a glimpse of a better future that causes an individual to act differently in the present. Paul writes a letter to the church in Ephesus that is directed to Gentiles (non-Jewish people). Paul paints a picture of the future where everyone belongs to the kingdom of God through Christ. Everyone. As we read through Ephesians and catch a glimpse of this vision, it should fuel us to act differently in the present. In this vision, Paul takes time to reflect on our past failures and God’s present redemption. He insists that God not only raised Jesus up and sat him in heavenly places above all authority (Eph 2:20-21), but he did the same for us (2:4-6). We must identify with Christ in his life, death, resurrection and ascension. We have been raised with Christ. As this vision becomes clear in our hearts and minds, it should fuel these statements:

i belong to the kingdom of God through Christ i connect to the body of Christ through a local church Being a member of a local church is a gift allowing us to express and strengthen our sense of belonging to the kingdom of God. Membership to a local church is important to personal spiritual growth. Needless to say, I’m a little partial to our body of believers here at West End ;) Thanks for being here this morning.
