Yard Sale part 2: “Useless Fires” If you are visiting with us this morning, we are moving through the book of Malachi. Our prayer during this series is that the Holy Spirit convicts us of what we need to “sell” in order to make room for HIS work in our lives. As we continue our study, here are two interesting elements to this final book of the Old Testament: 1. Malachi served during Nehemiah’s day — a period in the Jewish people’s history characterized by corrupt priests, wicked practices, compromising leaders and a false sense of security in their status with God. 2. Malachi uses an easy-to-follow question-and-answer format to address specific issues such as those we will discover today: false worship and complacency. Malachi’s words were addressed “to” the Jews of Israel. However, as we will discover today, the message calling God’s people to authenticity is just as relevant “for” us.
