White House Hosts Policy Briefing for African Leaders in Diaspora

8 TIPS FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE PAGE 13

By Temi Elevate The long-time political and economic marginalization of Africans in the US was the hot topic at a White House briefing attended by over 100 African leaders and representatives from across the country in late February. The briefing, facilitated by United People for African Congress (UPAC) in conjunction with the White House Office of Public Engagement, was focused on US-Africa policy and how Obama’s administration has contributed towards this community’s efforts to overcome challenges and barriers. Despite generally being highly educated, African populations in the US continue to experience racial/ethnic discrimination and bureaucratic roadblocks that have prevented full integration into American life and economy. “For far too long Africans have not been allowed to make their full contributions to this great nation,” said Dr. Sylvester Okere, President of UPAC. “We are very grateful that President Barack Obama has allowed us to make our case for full African integration in this country during Black History Month.”
