Editorial The 2010 Annual Report of WAZA summarises the most important facts such as the financial situation, changes in the composition of committees and WAZA Council as well as other important activities of the association.

A comprehensive report is published annually as the proceedings of the Annual Conference, accessible for all members on the WAZA website.

The 65th Annual Conference took place in Cologne (Köln), Germany, 17–21 October 2010.

WAZA and CoP 10 of the Convention on Biological Diversity At the conference of the parties WAZA and JAZA presented the Japanese ver‑ sion of the Aquarium strategy for con‑ servation and sustainability, Turning the Tide. Additionally a fair, side event and press conference were organised.

WAZA Training Grant 2010 WAZA Council decided to grant the 2010 WAZA training grant to Wildlife Reserves Singapore for conducting a workshop on primate behavioural monitoring to enhance the capacity of Asian zoo professionals and to Vienna Zoo (Tiergarten Schönbrunn) for train‑ ing on zoological collection planning and zoo management in Sri Lanka.

A total of 17.368 € were granted.

Heini Hediger Award 2010 Bert de Boer was granted WAZA’s highest honour, he probably made his greatest contribution to the zoo and aquarium world when he single­‑handedly wrote the first draft of the World Zoo Conservation Strategy (IUDZG­‑WZO/IUCN­‑CBSG, 1993).

This was the first time that the global vision and mission of zoos and aquari‑ ums had been set out clearly and strategically, including a potential di‑ rect conservation role in wild habitats (in situ) at home and abroad.
