Wayzata Public Schools continues to grow, and with that growth comes both opportunity and responsibility. As more families choose our district, we remain committed to ensuring that every student—whether they are just beginning their educational journey or preparing for graduation—has access to a high-quality, future-ready learning environment.
Facility planning for long-term success
Planning is underway to determine what new facilities and updates to our current schools will be needed to support this growth. Our focus is on creating exceptional educational experiences while making thoughtful, efficient use of the space and resources we have today.
Maximizing space at West Middle School
An example of our forward-thinking approach is the upcoming construction project at West Middle School (WMS), which will begin this month with completion expected by September 2026.
The plan involves transforming the currently unused lower-level locker rooms into a brand-new music suite, which will house band, choir and orchestra programs. This will free up the existing main-level music space, allowing it to be repurposed into much-needed classroom space. The expansion is being fully funded through existing district resources, meaning there will be no additional tax impact for our residents.
Preparing for the future
The WMS project is just one part of a broader vision for the future of our district. As student enrollment continues to grow, we are also considering the need for new school buildings and additional facility updates to ensure that we can continue to provide outstanding learning environments for all students.
