WHAT TO EXPECT

Our CSI Camp fills up fast and space is limited. Campers will be accepted on a first-come, firstserved basis.

If you’ve ever wondered if the lab and forensic techniques on the television shows are real, find out for yourself and register for Waynesburg University’s annual CSI Camp! During this five-day, four-night experience, students will learn about fingerprints, trace evidence, expert testimony and more.

Your confirmation materials will be mailed to you after we have received your registration and deposit.

Our CSI Camp is designed to give students hands-on experience of what they can expect in the forensic science and criminal justice majors and, ultimately, occupations. Camp will enable students to enhance their knowledge and understanding of forensic topics and allow them to make valuable connections with professionals and fellow peers in the field. Students will have the opportunity to train with and learn from certified experts in a small group setting.

Mike Cipoletti Camp Director

Mike Cipoletti retired from the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab to direct the forensic science program at Waynesburg University. He worked as a forensic scientist and lab system quality specialist in chemistry and drug identification. He also has professional experiences in investigating and processing illicit drug labs, hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction. He earned his BS in Chemistry from Westminster College and his MS in Analytical Chemistry from West Virginia University.

James Tanda Camp Advisor

James Tanda, an instructor of criminal justice at Waynesburg University, brings a wealth of experience to the program. Prior to joining the University, James worked as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for 27 years and has also served as a Contracted Explosives Specialist with the U.S. Government. He earned his BA in Criminology and Pre-Law from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his MA in Criminal Investigation from Waynesburg University.

Students entering 11th grade, 12th grade, or who are spring 2024 high school graduates are eligible to attend CSI Camp. Scholarships are available. Interested students must register and deposit in order to receive the scholarship application. The application will be sent automatically to those who have deposited and secured their places for the 2024 CSI Camp.

MEET THE CAMP STAFF

“CSI Camp was the highlight of my summer. It gave me the opportunity to get to actually do hands-on activities that helped me get a glimpse into the different fields I was interested in while simultaneously having a blast with other teenagers from across the country. I had so much fun!” - Jennifer Estrada (Tucson, Ariz.)

Adam Jack, an assistant professor of forensic science, is a former Forensic Detective with the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office and Police Officer in Rostraver Township, Pa. He was a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst through the International Association for Identification and has testified as an expert in Crime Scene Investigation and fingerprints.
