Cramerton looking at spreading word of what town has to offer By Alan Hodge alan.bannernews@gmail.com

Cramerton has a lot going for it and town officials are in the process of considering ways to get the message out. “We are interested in the best way Cramerton can have a presence not just in Gaston County, but the state as well,” said town manager David Pugh. “With the success of public and private development and business such as Goat Island Park, the downtown area, Market St., and South Fork Village, the Board of Commissioners and staff believes this is an excellent time to examine the Cramerton brand and marketing strategy to further project a desirable, positive imagine within the Charlotte Region and state of North Carolina. Further reason for this initiative is the strong interest in Cramerton’s past, present and future generated by the Centennial Celebration.” Back in June, Cramerton began looking for a PR company to freshen up its image. Five were considered and the branding and marketing firm of Arnett, Muldrow & Assoc. was tabbed to possibly develop a program the town can consider to put Cramerton's best face forward. “At the recent Sept. 1 meeting, the Board gave final approval for Arnett Muldrow’s process of reviewing Cramerton’s brand and what the Town will need to do moving forward,” said Pugh. The Greenville, SC-based company has extensive experience in boosting and polishing the profile of communities over across the country. It has done jobs in over 400 towns in 35 states. Recently, it devised a branding system for Cherryville. Other local clients have included Shelby, Davidson, Huntersville, and Pineville.

“One reason Arnett Muldrow became so strong during our search phase is the firm’s detailed process and really engaging town plans, stake holders, and others,” Pugh said. “They even list talking to young people such as high school seniors that live in the town.” The company sent a letter to Cramerton officials. “With its distinctive mill town character including assets such as its village square and Goat Island, Cramerton has a singular opportunity to position itself as a unique place to live, visit, and invest,” it read. Just exactly what could Arnett, Muldrow & Assoc. possibly be expected to do for Cramerton? The company lists 17 “deliverables” including logo and tagline designs, logo designs for events, custom banner designs, web page design concepts, print cover designs for brochures and pamphlets, digital resource package, and wayfinding signage to name a few. The wayfinding signs are an especially hot item right now among local municipalities. Both Belmont and Mt. Holly have them. Arnett Muldrow & Assoc.'s strategy includes reviewing Cramerton's current marketing and branding strategy, visiting town and making a “reconnaissance and photo shoot”, meeting with town officials, and devising an implementation strategy and followup. The firm's fee is not to exceed $12,500. It's important to note that the idea of altering any current Cramerton branding/image is in the early stages and no changes have been made yet. “ I want to stress we are going through a branding 'review' to see if Cramerton needs any changes,” Pugh said. “So, many outcomes are possible at this point.”

Four Belmont boys, Clayton Austin, Hayes Andrews, Austin Andrews, and Grayer Andrews, have been burning up the BMX racing circuit and recently returned from Raleigh where they added to their trophy collections. Don't know what BMX is? Well here's the scoop on this exciting sport. BMX racing is a type of off road bicycle racing. BMX was derived from motorcycle motocross racing. BMX races are sprint races on purpose-built off-road single-lap race tracks. The track usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt race course made of various jumps and rollers and a finish line. The course is usually flat, about 15 feet (4.6 m) wide and has large banked corners that help the riders maintain speed.

The first in a series of Belmont wayfinding signs has been erected on N. Main St. near the intersection with Central Ave. The red, black, and white sign features script and arrows pointing out the direction to locations such as Rocky Branch Park, the downtown area, and Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. “These signs will range from general directional signs near the entrances to Belmont to guide drivers to different parts of town to more pedestrian scale signs directing pedestrians to the specific attractions in town, such as parks, the post office, and shopping areas,” said assistant city manager Adrian Miller. “We will even have nice signage directing motorists on
