Unter dem schrägen Namen Blockflöte des Todes bringt ein ehemaliger Kirchenorganist nun als Singer/Songwriter das Publikum mit seinen Texten zum Schmunzeln. „DADA DISCO“ nennen die Jungs von Golf ihren Sound aus anspruchsvollen Texten, Elektro-Pop und groovy Rhythmen. Gute Bekannte innerhalb der Musikszene sind Bonaparte und Kid Simius. Im Rahmen des Waves Festival präsentieren sie erstmals in Österreich ihr gemeinsames Projekt Mule & Man. Die Düsseldorfer von Stabile Elite zeigen uns ihre Synthesizer-Kreationen mit einem ganz individuellen visuellen Konzept. Und Elektro-Pop sowie analoge Livemusik bestimmen den Sound der Band Vimes, der trotz vieler Einflüsse nicht überladen klingt – that’s music made in Germany!

the gap night Das Popkultur-Magazin aus dem Hause Monopol hosted einen der spannendsten Abende des diesjährigen Festivals. The pop culture magazine by Monopol publishing house is hosting one of the most interesting evenings in the course of this year’s festival.

egonnen wird der Abend mit der Klosterneuburger Band Grant, die mit erzählerischem Talent und musikalischem Können ihre Kreationen aus Balkan-Pop, Westcoast-Funk und eingängigem Gitarren-Pop präsentiert. Danach folgt das Indie-Pop-Trio Kafka Tamura, dessen Klangbild durch pulsierende Beats, Gitarren, Klavier und Gesang geprägt ist. Mit seiner Formation LFNT erzählt der Rock ’n’ Roll Troubadour Ran Nir Geschichten über Whiskey und flüchtige Notizen. Maarten Devoldere kennen manche als Frontman der belgischen Band Balthazar. Im Rahmen des diesjährigen Festivals präsentiert er sein Soloprojekt Warhaus zum ersten Mal in Österreich. Im Anschluss tritt das in Kopenhagen ansässige Produzenten-Duo Smzer auf, das mit seinem melodischen und fesselnden Klang zu einem der heißesten Elektronik-Gigs der letzten Jahre wurde. Den Abschluss bilden die heimischen Elektro-Heroes Powernerd.

Neben dem bloßen Präsentieren steht bei beiden vor allem die Unterstützung und Förderung dieser Talente im Vordergrund.

Heimlich, jedoch sicher nicht still und leise, jammten und werkelten die zwei Vollblutmusiker an dem laut Jundt „ergebnisoffenen“ Projekt, bis mit knapp 20 Stücken innerhalb eines Jahres doch recht eindeutig klar wurde: Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem sonstigen Gewohnheitsalleinherrscher und dem charmanten Backenbartträger harmonisierte derart gut, dass sogar auf die sonst bei beiden so präsenten Gitarren verzichtet wurde. Für Jundt war es erfrischend,

ls Starter des Showcase tritt die Luzerner Formation Rival Kings auf die Bühne. Mit ihrem Mix aus New Wave und Pop-Rock bringen sie die Ottakringer Stage zum Beben. Weiter geht’s auf der Skip Stage mit der Rockband The Souls, die dort das Publikum mit ihrem leicht melancholischen Sound begeistern wird. Nach einer kurzen Erholungspause machen wir uns auf den Weg ins WUK Foyer: Dort finden wir Klischée auf der Bühne, die Elemente aus Blues, Funk, Afro-Pop, Chanson, House mit einer Prise Swing, Rap und Trap zu einem neuen Bild elektronischer Musik kombinieren. Zum Abschluss geht’s dann ab in die Palme hosted by Jameson. Dort servieren DJ Ruff und DJ Invincible feinste Tunes bis in die frühen Morgenstunden. Wir sehen uns am Dancefloor!

ie fünf jungen Oberösterreicher starteten ihr gemeinsames Projekt FLUT im Januar letzten Jahres, nachdem die Bandkollegen Johannes M. Paulusberger sowie Sebastian und Florian Voglmayr bereits 2014 mit der Band Frazin Bake für Furore gesorgt hatten sorgten. Nach absolvierter Matura und mit den neuen Mitgliedern Jakob und Manuel begeistern die Musiker nun mit einem neuen Stil, der deutlich entschleunigt, aber auch elektronischer geworden ist. „In einer spiegelglatten Gegenwart kann ein Anker in der Vergangenheit zur Weiterentwicklung von etablierten Mustern leiten“, beschreiben die Jungs von FLUT ihren neuen Zugang. Tragende Synthesizer-Klänge, balancierende Gitarrenmelodien und anfangs zarte, später in mächtige Schlagzeug-Sounds transzendierende Drum-Machines bilden neben verzerrten Vocals in deutscher Sprache die Rezeptur für ihren Sound in 80er-JahreÄsthetik. Das ist auch bei ihrer letzten Single „Tiefschlaf“ zu hören, die sich langsam, aber beständig bis zu ihrem Höhepunkt steigert und so dem Bandnamen gerecht wird.

röffnet wird der Label-Abend durch das Trio Lausch mit ihrem einzigartigem AlternativeSound, der durch Post-, Alternative- und 90iesRock-Einflüsse geprägt ist. Eine gute Balance zwischen Musikern und Publikum während der Performance, das steht für Milk+ an erster Stelle. Ihr fetziger Progressive Space-Rock wird durch Elemente des Rock und Jazz geprägt. Im Anschluss präsentieren sich die Jungs von Parasol Caravan mit ihrem Blues/ Psychedelic-Rock und Heavy-Metal-Sound und beweisen, dass selbst diese Genre-Kombination hervorragend klappt. Den Abschluss bildet Matt Boroff. Wenn man bei diesem Bandnamen vermutet, dass es sich um einen Solokünstler handelt, liegt mal absolut falsch! Es handelt sich um drei Musiker, die gemeinsam ein imposantes Klangbild aus geladenem Rock und Blues-Elementen zaubern.

he starter of the night is the trio Lausch with their unique alternative sound, created out of post-, alternative-, classical 90ies rock, a bit of progressive rock and strong lead vocals. Communication between musicians and audience is on top priority for the band Milk+. In their sound the combine progressive space rock with elements of rock and jazz. Then the Linz based band Parasol Caravan with their mix out of blues-, psychedelic-rock and heavy metal take ove the stage. The four guys demonstrate that this combination of different styles works out very well. Even if the band name sounds like a solo artist, behind the project Matt Boroff there is trio. In this project they produce together a combination out of powerful rock and elements of blues.
