(Students can choose to attend one of the two weeks )

One of the most difficult parts of transitioning to a new school is understanding the procedures, student interactions, and how the building works as a whole The 6th grade transition to middle school class aims to help alleviate student stress and the anxiety of starting middle school by focusing on the little things that make the day run smoother We plan on reviewing things such as: class schedules, locker setup, classroom locations and the like Once we have worked on developing these skills, we will work on also coaching students up to getting ready to interact with multi age peers Now when that first day of middle school occurs, students will feel more comfortable and safe with the start of the year

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is based on work completion, face-to-face presence, and virtual conferences/activities with the course instructor for each course. For face-to-face courses, daily attendance is required. For virtual courses, the daily schedule is more flexible, but there are still expectations for a student to be marked present. If you have specific questions about your situation, please reach out to the summer school principal. Ultimately, attendance will be marked by the course instructor based on each student’s engagement in the course material and course activities, including attendance in scheduled classes. Failure to attend courses and/or engage in coursework will result in being dropped from the course.

CONDUCT

Students are expected to follow the same standards of conduct in effect during the regular school year. Individual schools may inform students of additional expectations. Students are responsible for appropriate behavior when using District technology resources - i.e., behavior comparable to that expected of students when they are in classrooms, school hallways, and other school premises and school-sponsored events. Disciplinary action may include, but is not limited to: technology restrictions/suspensions, student/parent conferences, suspension, pre-expulsion meeting, and expulsion.

Incoming freshmen will spend a half-day getting ready for the upcoming school year. Students will meet their mentors, participate in team-building activities, walk their schedule, and meet their teachers.

This can make it challenging for students to keep on pace with the class, but students have been able to do it We encourage students to try to work ahead prior to the vacation rather than trying to catch up after they return

What if my student needs more time?

To be successful in a Get Ahead class, students need to stay on pace with the course Summer School has a hard deadline, and all coursework must be completed by the last day of class - Friday, July 25
